The SmartQ 5 MID that never interested me enough to write about has just gotten itself a bigger, better-looking sibling.
The newly unveiled SmartQ 7 (or SmartQ7 or Smart Q7; there's no consistency!) earns its name from the 7-inch WVGA touchscreen making up most of the curvaceous device. A 4500mAh li-polymer battery promises to deliver up to 48 hours of music playback, while the built-in stand, stereo speakers, a USB 2.0 host port for connecting peripherals, and of course WiFi connectivity make the Linux-based gadget a versatile and potentially very capable Internet Tablet and MID.
No word on price or availability outside of China at the moment, but I think this one looks pretty ripe for importing.

Thanks, FOB!

I don’t know. Unless it has an OMAP3 series SoC, i doubt it will anything too interesting.
Someone over on the InternetTabletTalk forums has put Mer (the open version of Nokia’s Maemo) on to the SmartQ5 … it would be VERY interesting, to me, to see Mer on the SmartQ7.
And, I wonder if they’re going to make a SmartQ9… :-}
Looks like a good reader for in bed at night.
How much does it weigh?
I don’t know. There are still a lot of unknowns in the specs list: CPU, dimensions, weight, internal storage, etc. I’m guessing it’s under a pound.
I want one
I love this blog
I think its going for 189 at http://www.eletroworld.cn
Dont know how real this is. Has anyone bought anything from them?
Steve from umpcportal ordered one and we’re waiting for some interesting news. i don’t think it’s scam, but lets see
I have bought one Smartq5 from the eletroworld. It is a good device for internet browsing and sending and getting Emai. But the media player is so slow that you can not use it to watch a movie. The supplier said that they will update the firmware a these days.
I hope they make the GPL source code for it available. I haven’t seen the source code for their previous Mid device offered anywhere yet.
it is same as the Q5 , onlt different screen size
