More commonly associated with convertible UMPCs like the SC3 series, Kohjinsha has decided to forgo the swiveling touchscreen this time around with its new PM series, a compact clamshell that is really nothing more than a rebranded version of one of the lower spec'd UMID mbook M1 devices. All that Kohjinsha is offering for 59,800 yen (~$643), then, is a 1.1GHz Intel Atom processor, 512MB RAM, 16GB SSD, Windows XP, 4.8-inch WSVGA touchscreen, and 1.3-megapixel webcam.
Yeah, compared to the 1.3GHz CPU, 32GB SSD, built-in 3G, and matte black casing you can get under the UMID brand instead, there isn't a whole lot to get excited about here.

Interesting, but also sad. I wish the 1gb model would come out already!
Seems more and more people/companies agree with me: if you want something pocketable, it is the UMID or S5; if not, any netbook is already the most portable, comfortable and deadly cheap. Why bother with things like Kohjinsha or Sony P alike that are too small and much more expensive but not small enough for pocket?
Strangely enough, but don’t companies’ monitor the leading websites (like this one an others) in order to get a “feel” of what the potential clientele wants in a MID/UMPC? 512mb just won’t cut it anymore…hmmm…I somehow am crossing my fingers for something like the XPPHONE…hopefully it’s not vaporware, and its performance good enough to become the “gadget”…
