Think you can create an awesome app that takes advantage of the 4G in the HTC EVO 4G?
Submit it to the Sprint 4G App Challenge going on now until November 5th, and you could win a prize package worth $58,000! Here's the breakdown: $50,000 in cash, 1-year PDP membership, 250 hours for Virtual Developer Lab, HTC EVO (who wouldn't want another one, right?) with a year of free service, and roundtrip airfare to New York for the awards ceremony in mid-December plus a night in a hotel.

[Sprint] Thanks, James S!

I would create an app that notifies someone when the EVOs are freakin in stock again! So frustrating
I guess I’ll get back to work trying to port Quake2 Deathmatching to Android!
Here’s my app idea. It’s a screen that says “Do I have 4G coverage?” with a big button on it. When you press the button, you get the sad trombone sound and a new screen that says “Nope”.
Sorry, just a little miffed to live in Los Angeles but not have coverage yet.
Mitch, to find 4G coverage, there’s already an app for that:
http://forums.clear.com/clearcom/topics/android_iphone_app_for_locating_4g_coverage?from_gsfn=true
For both iPhone and Android.
Go into marketplace and search for “Got Clear”
It shows coverage areas for most markets, including ones not yet announced, but coming.
Keep checking that app to see when it shows coverage in LA, because Clearwire is already selling 3g/4g service and devices to early adopters in LA and NYC.
Thanks for the link. But I know Los Angeles is a special case; they are still in the process of figuring out optimal load and distribution to cover the city, so they are still brining towers up and down, mostly in the downtown and Westwood areas. I don’t get anything down in South Bay yet. A CLEAR rep at Hermosa Fiesta was giving his pitch to someone and I overheard full blanket coverage coming in January.
Is there an app that can do location based automation?
For example, I have no 4G at my house but I do just about everywhere else I go. It’d be nice if I could set my phone to automatically turn off 4G and then turn on WiFi once I get home and vice versa.
This app would allow you to set multiple locations and automate enabling/disabling multiple actions/apps when the app detects you’re in one of the preset locations.
That’s the app I would make if only I could make an app.
Actually, LA (like NYC) is now in pre-launch mode, the built towers are operational waiting for sales and marketing to gear up. Launch usually occurs shortly after that once base coverage is in place.
Oh, and the app shows the realistic coverage, including gaps and mobile only (outdoors) coverage.
