as much has changed in the last day, im really expecting it within the next.
I have the leaked 2.1 version on one of my streaks.. can i directly update it to the official froyo version? also i have clockwork recovery image on it

Maybe I am wrong but I really don’t understand why so much noise about the “official” update when Steve has gave us the same or mayb even better update WEEKS AGO……….

I’m using Steve’s build too but the official update is big, important news to a lot of people. The root population is incredibly small compared to the non-root population.
Because there are some major bugs that have kept people, like me, from going to it. I’ve read about orientation sensor problems, random reboots, and the lack of 720p video recording. Others complain of Market issues or getting stuck/bricking during the upgrade process. I am a total phone geek, but I need a phone that WORKS in every way. That’s why I’ve been waiting for the ‘official’ version…
can i install this update on my rooted streak(runing 1.6,build 4399)n still use it on my network(China Unicom)without a problem?
btw mine is an O2 strek…
Well its a big deal for a lot of reasons. IVE been tweaking phones (mainly WM) for along time. Big with WM it is very easy to put back to factory Incase of warranty. I am very skeptical about useing a cooked ROM since this is my third Streak and I dont know how to revert back. Also when it comes to tweaking. Cooked ROMs based off factory ROM is always more stable than something someone just cooked up.

I second that Chris. Roms based off original builds ALWAYS better. Cant wait till modaco.com gets their hands on it and does away with all att’s restrictions and bloat wear just for the ability to tether for free. But seeing as i bought my Streak full price, will be sometime before i even consider. For now happy just to have Froyo on the way. Yeeeeessssssssssssssssssss!!!!!

I haven’t installed DJ_Steve’s ROM because I understand it changes the baseband from the AT&T 31 to the O2 21. When I last changed the baseband (upgrading to the O2 2.1 ROM) my Streak did not see my AT&T MicroCell (or vice versa). When I downgraded back to 1.6 and restored the AT&T baseband, my Streak and MicroCell were talking again.
Eventually I would use a modded ROM, but I hope there will be one available with the AT&T baseband.

Well yesterday my teacher confiscated my streak (i was checking my grades online for a test i had taken in world civ the day before)and at the end of the day i received it with a completely shattered screen. Also i had only bought it on thursday, so there would have been no time for it to crack. I will hopefully get a portion of the replacement to be paid for by the teacher because my parents WILL not pay $550 for a phone they paid $300 for the day before. But that may take weeks meaning that i will not get this update immediately when it comes out.

hopefully the secretary who she gave it to for me to pick up after school will be on my side! she noted to me when i picked it up that it was before she got it.
If you know what are you doing when installing the beta your streak is going to be wrking without problems, and Steve’s upgrade is BY NO MEANS CRAP.
If you don’t know what are you talking about then you better don’t say nothing, try to be a little bit more respectful of ALL the hard work of many guys like Steve.
Besides, who told you the ” official” update s going to be better and bug free????????

Get a portion back??!! They need to REIMBURSE ALL OF IT! Regardless of what school code you violated to warrant the confiscation, they have the responsibility to ensure it is stored/handled properly while in their care.

Switch over to the UK Dell site and take a look at what they’ve got….Andi Android on the Streak page announcing Android 2.2 will be available soon! No surprise that he’s not announcing anything on the US Streak page. I’m beginning to think Dell doesn’t have enough server space to accommodate all of us champing at the bit for 2.2 and would upgrade all at once, if we could. Perhaps they should put the update on the cloud………

Today, when i tried booting up my streak, it was halfway bricked . .
Just good that removing the battery and going into the recovery menue without doing anything helped <.<
I am getting mine on November 18 and it will be locked to Rogers. Have you figured out how to unlock it for use on Fido?

I have the beta build from Steve and it’s slowly driving me crazy, the market place bug is a big issue, I have to keep getting certain apps as .apk files outside the market place. And the biggest problem is the security on log-in, sliding my finger fails sometimes so often in a row I give up and restart the phone.
You will have to use an unlocking service (face to face or remote). Please let me know if yours works out of the box on Fido because I will get mine a week after you !

I’m sure Steve’s is probably better, but updating to it from stock is still dangerous. Last time I tried it bricked my dell streak. I really want to get Steve’s version but I’m nervous that I might brick my new one too.
