They say that good things come to those who wait. And if you still haven't bought your Dell Streak yet, then I guess that old saying is true.
Within the next few weeks, Dell.com will begin selling unlocked Streaks in the US with Android 2.2 (Froyo) preinstalled. It's everything most early adopters wanted months ago, and it's going to be given to anyone who resisted temptation and decided to wait.
Current Streak owners just found out today how the Froyo OTA update will work and considering that the news left most unhappy, hearing about these upcoming unlocked Froyo Streaks will be like kicking them when they're down.
No word yet on how much these new Streaks will cost, let alone which 3G bands it'll support, but those and other details should be revealed as the release date draws near.
I'm always paranoid that information is going to get pulled (it's happened several times before), so here's a screen cap just in case:
[Dell] Thanks, jdmnash!
UPDATE 11/21: Comments have been closed due to offensive, disrespectful behavior. Offending comments have been removed.

Seriously Dell? Another kick in the chops to current Streak users? That’s just bad customer service.
update.pkg, anyone???
You’ll probably know this but dj steve’s froyo is now at 1.3 from today
They are very good at sudden changes to their releases. The Canadian Streak now reads locked to Rogers. Good thing I followed your example and screenshot sim free before I ordered mine.
Well, this just plain sucks. I just ordered 2 streaks on Saturday for my wife and I to use, thinking that froyo was coming in the next 2 weeks
, oh well, I guess I shouldve waited a few more days!
Since unlocked versions will be available soon, doesn’t that mean that current owners should be able to get their unlock codes from ATT? I’m not a current owner, but if I was I would demand it as soon as they start shipping the unlock versions.
If ATT doesn’t comply, I would put pressure on both ATT and DELL with a clever youtube video and have it go viral.
Early adopters should be rewarded, not punished. If it wasn’t for early adopters none of this stuff would be happening now.

just got off the phone with dell mobility and they told me that all phones are locked to at&t in the US even if you paid the full price like did….>_> really wish they told me before i dished out 550
I have a Streak for AT&T. I called last week and got an unlock code. So….. if I unlock it, will I be able to get the Froyo update sooner??? Or am I just gonna have to wait because it was bought locked for AT&T??? Anybody know??

Ditto! Seems to me ‘common sense’ and ‘loyalty’ doesn’t seem to exist in Dell’s vocabulary!
As someone who has been an early adopter of new technologies (including the Streak) , I find it very concerning that companies put the people who generate the interest in their products last in line for new features. If it is true that new units will be shipped with Froyo before the current customer base is taken care of, this will be a PR nightmare for Dell.
See posts on other artical, seperate software for seperate carriers ex. Att is update ver -31 O2 is update ver -21 so until they release att specific update wont work for att
This is to sheldon, check dell.com for a dell streak forum, the admin says if it was bought on att you will prob get update with rest of att users, maybe sooner, if does work with unlock code sooner please let us know so I can call att and get that code.
i concur
Will do!!!
It took less than 2 minutes to get the AT&T unlock code. Its easy.
you guys are obviously not Apple customers are you? The Apple way has always been to punish early adopters by selling them unfinished products and by releasing improved versions of said products 6 months later. It is the early adopter’s lot in life… ;(
Dell isn’t punishing early adopters, just folks who bought the Streak on contract.
I didn’t buy on contract but I’m still getting hosed. All US phones were sold locked to att which means that we’re at the back of the line. If it meant another week maybe I wouldn’t feel shafted, but waiting until pos late Dec is just not cool. I think the bottom line is that they made a really bad choice in shipping 1.6 and now it’s biting them (and by extension us) in the bottom.
UPDATE!! I got a hold of a T-Mobile SIM card. Put it in my Streak, successfully unlocked it. But still no OTA for Froyo. I was reading somewhere, I think this site, that the US OTA wouldnt be pushed until next week so im going to patiently wait until Monday and see if anything changes. Will keep the world posted…. If needed!!
What does it matter if ur locked to at&t who cares just sit and wait we’ve waited this long whats a couple more weaks unlocking ur phone is stupid what better diffrences do u gt notheing seriousely lol yall people make me laugh
how did u got the code please let me know at yashasvi.bhuta@gmail.com
hey how di u got the unlock code please let me know at yashasvi.bhuta@yahoo.com
talk shit professionally thats funny i like that
but using the phrase “jack hole” I dont see how thats better than “yall”
LOL!
Still, if “dickatdell” is actually at Dell, it shows they are actually following these forums…
“Come quick, Bessie, I think we got a LIVE one…”
Froyo : http://mobileupdate.dell.com/?version=GAUSB1A110100
Enjoy!!!!
1. Will TMombile SIM work with that unlocked device?
2. Then if it does – can one buy in the US and use with Bell Mobility in Canada?
Wife is thinking to get into smartphones after seeing my Canadian Vibrant.
Thanks.
