The day is finally here, folks! After months of delays, false promises, and what seemed to just be outright lies, the official Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for the AT&T-locked Dell Streak is now being pushed out by the powers-that-be to the rest of us.
Most users of this particular version of the Streak, myself included, have long since abandoned Dell's firmware first for Android 2.1 (I did this on launch day back in August!) and then for DJ_Steve's fantastic and regularly updated StreakDroid custom Froyo ROM—or maybe his StreaksMI MIUI ROM or his CyanogenMod 6.1 ROM—but for everyone else, the release of the official update, while l-o-n-g overdue, is very good news indeed.
If you don't get the update notification automatically, you can check for it manually (Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates) or visit the link below on your Streak:

Would you know if this update is any differnt than the official Dell version that was used to update unlock 00 units? When I check on my phone which I update myself last week it says no updates avalible.
Just download the pkg file on your computer, transfer it to your sdCard, and use astro to rename it to Update.pkg.
Boot into recovery mode (pull battery, replace… power on the appliance, and hold the speaker Up & down buttons when the lights come on)
Then select option 2.
Your Streak will update itself with the pkg file.

Anyone able to confirm if tethering/wifi hotspot is still enabled in the at&t build? Given that they want to charge you to use the same data twice when you tether on an iPhone, I can’t imagine they left that in there…

Sigh… Trying to restore apps with Nero Backup & Restore… It lists all the apps I had installed, but I have to reinstall them one-at-a-time and it loses all of the settings/history I had in those apps. Am I missing something?

did the update, with in 10 minutes the new ui stopped working and the dell stage launcher has constant fc, can not use my streak at all, called dell customer support and they said they didn’t know what to do, this is the last time i ever want to deal with anything dell, they did a horrible job on their first android tablet and then after almost a year of holding the 2.2 update its fucked right off the bat, wow, i hate this stupid product more than ever. i wish dell would actually help customers or try to sell a legit product instead of the shittiest possible.
So has anybody tested this thing out yet? Is the front facing camera working on apps like fring, yahoo messenger, tango, or skype(thats if skype even has video calling on this phone yet)?

It’s ATT’s fault not Dell’s. The 2.2 update for unlocked units was fine.
Glad I waited….2.2 is much faster than 1.6….loving the swype.
Although on occasion the lock screen will freeze on me.

I would think that the Qdl Tool would work. But I have not tried it. And I will probably stay on the unlocked 2.2 if I even keep this phablet.
after updating to 2.2 my streak worked ok for about an hour, before i started getting the exact same message! i’ve been trying to restart but without any success … and, it just doesn’t recognize my at&t phone connection anymore!

this is a serious issue … we were told all along that we must wait patiently because at&t was working real hard to get all the bugs out before subjecting us – beloved customers – to any kind of deprivation … and lo and behold! after the wait, deliverance comes …. all we get is a piece of junk that works for about an hour and then goes belly up!!!!! what a cruel joke it must surely be!
i’m doing a factory reset right now … ALL my stuff is gone!! now i have to reload everything … from scratch … and all this as reward for waiting for the at&t deities to fix all the bugs before handing it down to us, mere mortals ….. just INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

How to do a factor reset? Could you give some advice?
Push the volume buttons and the power button at the same time then after the phone come on use the camera button to hit factory rest. But you have to turn off your phone before you start

Thank God! Mines working like a dream and I couldn’t be happier. 2.2 is so much better than 1.6. I’m glad I held out and didn’t root, use the qdl, or flash DJ_Steve’s custom ROMs. For now, I’m satisfied.

I think I’ve been updated and working relatively fine. Start with a non-rooted or flashed 2 week old Streak from Best Buy.
Anyone have luck with getting backed up apps without having to download one at a time? I have hours invested in ‘Angry Birds’ that I really don’t want to replay =P

It probably checks to see what version you are coming from and will only update from that version.
Try a factory reset.
40 minute install and seems to be working fine. (Except for facebook)
Everything worked out fine and it took less than 15 mins, or maybe I wasn’t paying attentin. Anyway’s I miss the old 1.6 layout it was much cleaner this new stage crap, and the wallpaper is horrible now, other than that the adobe 10. support is pretty cool, and it does seem to be a lot faster/smoother but damn the STAGE SUCKS!
I cannot for the life of me get the update to install. It just hangs on the Dell logo for about an hour and then randomly reboots. I’ve tried it about 5 times. Also tried it manually with the .pkg downloaded and renamed on my computer and then used the restore function. It just hangs on black screen and does nothing. Unrooted 1.6.

Those of you who may have attempted other ways to advance your unit,with failure,( 64 bit PC, driver probs etc) may experience some setbacks. I knew this was coming over a week ago. I hinted at it on another page.
The one thing I did (as advised) since I owned my unit was, I did not download anything from anywhere, no roms, no photos, no music, no apps, no back-door stuff, no nothing. Just used it as a phone and Tx-ing period. So it was basically clean. I had no problems what so ever. Still did a factory reset and screen calibration just for G P. Now working on removing some minor bloat, like the weather and other what not’s. This upgrade works fine. It appears our un-locked brothers and those across the pond were lab-Rats. What we got is an slightly improved, tweaked 2.2 based on the former problems. Again ,if you are having problems, think of what you may have d-loaded earlier prior to this OTA. “They may have even copied some of Steve’s stuff to make this thing work”
Can you tell us what tweeks this version has over version 318 which was an official build from Dell?
I have it installed, it works great after the factory reset………..and i’m still waiting for them to retract it. I just know this has to be some cruel joke. Guess i’m burned out from waiting so long, lol.

All I have to say at this point is without DJ_Steve, I think Dell/at&t would have already had a class action lawsuit slapped on them for this device. I mean really, every Streak owner has some sort of problem. If not for the false advertising and stringing us along promising 2.2 with specific dates, then further delaying it several times, then they should face a product fitment suit. I would jump on board a class action lawsuit at this point. Both Dell and At&t should suffer monetary losses and consequences for delivering such a failed product to the market place.
Why is it that everyone always shows different versions of stage widget. Engadget shows a beautiful Glass shelf and other show a one dimensional gray version. Check Engadgets write up…it even shows a bookshelf widget. I did not see these widgets in ver.318

If angry birds is what you are most concerned about, there is an app in the market for .99 that will back up your progress. It works like a charm. There is a free one by the same vendor for the Seasons edition…

Dell said they would have a 2.2 update, and they rolled it out to other countries months ago so Dell is blameless. ATT never committed to a 2.2 date so ATT is blameless. What exactly would Dell or ATT be sued for?
And don’t say ‘they broke their promise’, link to an actual committment that either Dell or ATT was responsible for but failed to meet.

So basically if you already have 2.2 baseband 318, build 12821, don’t upgrade to the AT&T’s update because you’ll lose your free hotspot and tethering. I really don’t use either one of them but it’s nice to have them FOR FREE. Now if someone can confirm that the front facing camera works with different apps ,like fring or oovoo, then may be I’ll think about updating.

Is this what I was missing out on not getting the DJ Steve build!!! Now this is the best 5inch tablet phone!! From 1.6 to 2.2 is crazy, Live Wall Papers, endless updated market apps for the 2.2, its crazy and because its larger than most true phones, I have gotten so much attention with it!! I was next to a guy with the i4 and got a phone call, whipped it out to answer, sportin my new 2.2 live wallpapers, and he wanted to buy my streak right then and there!!! I agree 100% if not for the money than do it just to break balls and lawyers fees, for the both of them.
But heres something I did.
Like a credit card when something does not work or faulty, advertised improper,drop in price, etc. You place the charge in dispute. Correct so far ??. I had put my Streak on my Dell preferred account(a charge). So I called Dell Financial service to place my order in dispute based on the above principles (like a credit card) within 10 mins they charged back $50.00 to my account. Give it a try, I did it in early Feb right after the no show update.
As for this update, everything works like new, front face camera, bells & whistles. I mean everything

I see what you mean. I did the Dell 2.2 upgrade with the QDL tool, and I have just an ugly gray panel as a stage. Until just now I didn’t even know there were different versions of the stage, but, I want that gleaming glass shelf.
What I can’t believe is that any of you would even bother with the ATT update when you could be running Streakdroid, and then whine about not having Froyo when it has been available this whole time. it’s just laughable. I realize ATT screwed every Streak owner on contract with them who expected to have Froyo months ago. But the fact is that every day for the past five months that ATT has been lying there is and has been a rom out that far out performs ANYTHING you might get from ATT and Dell. And I don’t want to hear “Some people don’t know how to put a custom rom on their streak” OR “But, the warranty blah blah blah…”, that’s all so much B.S. What it comes dowmn to is pure laziness. If you had asked me four months ago what a custom rom was, much less how to flash one, I wouldn’t have had a clue. Soon after realizing ATT didn’t give two shits about Streak owners and constantly reading about how great this “dj_steve” was, I did a couple hours of research. With the help of step by step (basically “For Dummies”)instructions put together by the good people at xda, this site and others I was on Streakdroid in no time. I didn’t have a single problem from the first rom I flashed to the latest, and best, StreakDroid 1.8.0 ( aka Chernobyl Meltdown Edition ). To sum up, quit WHINING and, though it may take a little effort, God forbid, DO IT YOURSELF!
Essentially, but Dj steve’s are even faster. Last I saw he overclocked to 1.5ghz. Still, 2.2 is great compared to 1.6.

HELP!!!!. My streak is an AT&T … but unlocked using an unlock code provided by AT&T. Have you tried to update one similar to mine ??? I followed the steps: downloaded > then execute Update > after some minutes there is an error> E:can’t open sdcard/download/Streak_340_14844_31.pkg (bad) .. ans restarted in shit 1.6 again!!! … shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!! what do we pay for then..
Pre-update I had a rooted 1.6 with many side installed apps, music, movie files,etc.. When I learned of the update through this website I simply checked for it and installed. No problems whatsoever. All my files and apps are still here as well as the new goodies.
No, AT&T’s Froyo release is not what you were missing out on by not getting dj_steve’s streakdroid. Dj_steve’s roms are infinitely better than ANYTHING AT&T will ever release.
the ATT update went ok, but now my Plantronics headset locks up the phone and does not work. Anyone else have this problem or recommendations for a headset that works with froyo? Also, some of the settings on the camera do not function.
Bought Streak day it came out an have loved it. I stuck with locked ATT 1.6 until the official 2.2 came out yesterday. Everything on 2.2 works great. I do miss the 1.6 UI. Those of you who are talking about lawsuits make this website fun to read. I cant imagine being as pissed as you are over such a small thing.

i commented about how thrilled i was, but am afraid i spoke too soon! Any one having issues with the screen rotation hanging up and not working? Dam so pissed no tethering, no video chating what the hell is wrong here after we were promised on these features how gay is that all this wait for notheing those were the main reason I waited so long for this dam update seriousely so we are screwd with that stuff, other than that its pretty good I guess
I am still leaving the Apple sticker which I have covered the Dell logo with on the Streak. I love the questions I’m asked. It also saves me from the embarrassment, not hearing all the anti-Dell BS (which is basically all true) and puts the blame on Apple. I love hearing the “what the hell is that” especially the clueless reps at the ATT store and the “where can I get one”. I just respond, “Do you know someone in Europe”. When it comes to Apple people are like drug addicts. They want the latest to replace something they have that works fine.
Upgrade 2.2 went great no problems at all, enjoying my new Apple Streak. Note; doing a factory reset cleared any problems. Only had one “The cant read Calendar error,force close”
If anyone knows how to Sync with Windows calendar, please post. I do not like outlook, it’s code is to open across your PC’s O S. and do not want to off site server my calendar with Google

Got AT@T;s 2.2 working OK as well. Love it. Question: RonJ had, a few months back on this blog, a nifty way to sideload non-market apps by dialing 307 with stars and pound signs surrounding it; worked great on my donut 1.6. Streak. Doesn’t seem to work on 2.2; keeps opening a box saying there’s something about “passport” that’s not working right on the SD card. Any ideas, anyone?

every time i update my phone when it rebots it stays frozen on the dell logo i thought maybe it just take a while but after an hour and still nothing i took out my battery resarted it and i went back to 1.6 i did a factory reset idk what is wrong plzz help

Hi guys, I renamed the file Streak_340_14844_31.pkg to Update.pkg > executed a “Emergency Software Recovery” > and then I got the error : E:Can’t open /sdcard/Update.pkg (bad) …. > device is restarted again in 1.6
any tip please…. I feel so fustrated

Seemed fantastic to start, or maybe i waited so long, ANYTHING seemed great, but i just could not deal with the lag, force close, rotation not working correctly, guess the testing just was not enough, had to return mine, guess i am no longer a Streak person! Good Luck Everybody!!!!
Finally happened! …cant believe it…like most, I had lost hope, In fact I was at the end of my 30 day return period with best buy, and was actually in the process of transfering data back to my iphone 3gs when I checked (for the last time) the update screen… It was a moment of last repreve… I had absolutely had it with 1.6 and was gonna jump ship , while I still could… Glad they finally came through. But unlike a lot of people, im actually kind of stoked on the dell stage Gui… My chief complaint of not switching from apple to droid was the lack of slickness that the droid had in the first few years… Sure, they do leave you with a limited ability to mod, but coming from the land of few options (iphone) In a sad way was not disapointed!…whens 3.0 coming out?
So like many of you on here I’ve had 2.2 running on my Streak for 5 days now. While it’s great, I seem to be experiencing slow load times of the Dell Stage widgets and the application menu whenever I press the power button from standby. Is anyone else experiencing this?

2.2 update showed up, but wouldn’t install. Eventually bricked the Streak. Replacement Streak showed up today. Doesn’t even detect the 2.2 update.
