Just as they did in protest of the HTC EVO 3D being locked down, many unhappy customers are once again heading to Facebook to write on the company's wall, this time threatening to return their new phones if the bootloader isn't unlocked within the 30-day return period.
HTC confirmed that it would no longer be locking bootloaders before the EVO 3D's release, so the fact that the phone still ships with an S-ON badge is obviously upsetting to buyers who feel that they've been lied to.
The good news is that HTC is still listening to its customers. "We are diligently working to ensure that we do this right," the company posted in reponse to a Facebook comment today. "When everything is finalized, we will make an announcement on Facebook. Thanks for your patience."
How much longer HTC will need to make sure unlocking the bootloaders is done "right" is unknown, but many new EVO 3D owners are already counting down from 30.
[Facebook] Thanks, Chris!

Anxiously awaiting unlocked bootloader. I’m holding on to my Evo4G in case they don’t unlock with 30 days.
Lets write in HTC wall to let them know our take on it.
Personally I’m a little concerned at how impatient the community seems to be about unlocking the EVO 3D. HTC said they would unlock it and I think it’s too early to start beating the drum.
As far as the phone goes, while I’m still trying to adjust to the narrower/taller screen (really not a fan) I’m loving it! And while I didn’t buy the phone for the 3D, I could not stop playing with it all weekend. The 3D is MUCH better than I expected and some of the YouTube videos are AWESOME!
People arent impatient, they are expecting a company to keep their promises especially since android is supposedly an open os. Its not too early because after 30 days your stuck no matter what. I think people would rather wait longer and return the phone and use a rooted evo till it does get unlocked.
All I know is that right now I am very unhappy with the battery life and I can’t run juice defender since its not unlocked so I am going to be returning it before 30 days unless it is unlocked.
Customers are upset because the Evo 3D was supposed to be unlocked by the release date as per HTC.
Customers are just letting HTC know that are willing to forgive HTC’s oversight, and that they are willing to give HTC an additional 30 days to stay true to their word. And if HTC does not, many Evo 3D’s will be returned.
I think that’s fair, and I also think HTC is hearing their Customers Loud & Clear.
Nothing like a Loud Reminder to get Corporate to give their Customers what they Want and what they were Promised.
If there are issues with the Evo 3D that can possibly be helped with Juice Defender and the like, it would be advisable for HTC to not take the full 30 days to unlock bootloader as Customers would need at least a couple of days to be sure if certain apps are able to compensate for certain issues, if they should arise.
Thats true. I really hope they unlock it soon. At this point everything on the evo3d is awesome except for the battery life. I was hoping the reviews about battery life were sort of untrue but the battery seems to be just as bad as the evo4g. I guess the only positive from that is that the evo3d does a lot more with the same battery life. I hope updates make the battery life more efficient. I guess we’ll see. Heres counting till my 30 days.
This was all I was waiting on to pull the 3D trigger. Chill out peeps, they had already produced and shipped the products when Chow said they would no longer lock them. I was just afraid that they meant every phone after the 3D. This confirms it.
Not sure why you guys can’t run Juice Defender, I have it on my 3D and ran it on my stock EVO 4G. I’m getting double the battery life on my 3D. Using both phones nonstop constant use, browsing, playing videos and text, I got 3 hours on the 4G, on the 3D It’s 7 1/2 hours. Right now I’m at 27 hours battery life with 43% left. Obviously that’s with light usage, but that’s great battery life, and far better than a stock 4G. I’m gonna laugh when everyone takes their 3D back at 30 days and HTC gets it unlocked on day 31.
Battery life is much better than the older Evo. I could set my watch to the low battery alert on that one. Every day at 3 pmit sounded off. At least the 3d battery lasts until the evening. By the way, I might be a novice, but what is a bootloader and what does it do?
I found this link which explains what a bootloader is in detail, and is Very informative >>

people are way too impatient. the hostility towards HTC on the xda boards seems out of hands at times. I say just enjoy the amazing phone as is, because it is f*&^ing amazing. when it gets root, it will be even more amazing.
My gut feeling is they are holding off till after July 1st sometime, when the GSM version drops in Europe. Once the GSM version is dropped, I think then HTC will release the keys to unlocking the bootloader. just a thought that it would make more sense to me if they did it this way. I also understand it’s not just EVO 3D owners in an uproar, the Sensation owners and various other phones are waiting, too.
I think the impatient portion comes with the people who chose to buy the phone KNOWING it was going to be locked. HTC never gave an OFFICIAL notice stating the phone would COME unlocked they said that they would UNLOCK it eventually. It is not rocket science and getting frustrated at HTC for YOUR impartients is semi juvenile. You wanted the latest technology now you got it……. Be HAPPY
I doubt the majority of Evo 3D owners share your sentiment.
Others are watching also to see how HTC handles this situation.
I wish they would be transparent about whats going on. I mean, come on. Do you think HTC, the manufacturer of the device is “working on a way to unlock” the phone?… don’t you think they could have done it with one of the 2 OTA’s already released?
This has nothing to due with HTC and everything to do with Sprint at this point. I just wish HTC stepped up and gave full disclosure as to why they are beating around the bush, they wouldn’t be getting slammed so badly right now.
I have a couple of questions and comments regarding the bootloader being locked:
1) with the Evo 4G as an example, the bootloader comes locked and the security setting is S-On from HTC & Sprint.
2) with unrevoked3, we can root the Evo 4G (simple or full root) which unlocks the bootloader and the security setting changes to S-off showing us this.
3) once the Evo 3D bootloader is able to get unlocked with an OTA update? and the security setting is
S-Off, does that mean the Evo 3D is now rooted, or do we still need to root it?
4) if the EVO 3D does not get an OTA bootloader unlock, can’t it still get rooted and unlocked once someone like unrevoked figures it out?
I’m a little confused regarding an OTA unlock needed for the Evo 3D, as compared to the Evo 4G bootloader being locked but being able to be rooted, unlocking the bootloader.
Dudes, the date on my EVO3d’s “S-ON” screen is June 8, 2011 and I bought it on launch day. This is NOT cool at all…so it’s T-minus 15 and counting!
