User droidrx over at xda-developers has released a new Skype .apk that enables the Dell Streak to use Skype video calling on 3G and WiFi.
Previous official Skype applications restricted users to voice calling and only on a WiFi network, which could be overcome by downloading the unlocked Skype application released by xeudoxus on the Droid Forums. The newest version of Skype for Android (version 2.0) supports Skype-to-Skype video calling for a select few devices, and droidrx's .apk works great on the Dell Streak. This version of skype provides excellent, clear quality calls and supports both the front and back facing cameras. It has been confirmed to work with StreakDroid 1.9.0 and 1.9.1.

Had to activate the ‘mod_in_call’ option under tweaks to get sound and cant get front camera to work yet but a million times better than the standard skype app.
Had to uninstall Skype app before this would install … everything works well except can’t switch to front camera!

Can someone let the developer know? I’m not a member of XDA Dev. so can’t leave feedback. Also wonder why it [apparently] works on some Streaks and not others.
I’ve just updated the APK on post #251. I’m supposed to upload it after I add some more features but since that post was already linked here, I updated it so users won’t get the wrong version. For those who already downloaded the APK, go back to the linked post and download the new APK.
Many thanks, but I’ve installed the new apk and the front camera still doesn’t work! I had the same problem with fring until they fixed something … but GREAT work!
Try to clean all your old copie(s) first and then install the new one. If it still doesn’t work, send me the files in your /system/framework and the camera app from /system/app. My email is rxdroid@hotmail.com

yeah, i followed the instructions and both cameras are working, but the other persons hears my voice strangely…maybe it is the connection, i will test it more…

It seems to not support neon/vfp used by Skype’s video library
It doesn’t need to touch any system file so yes, it should work on stock froyo.
NEON/VFP is a processor feature, not of the OS/Android. Are you trying to use it in Streak 7? I believe Streak 7 doesn’t have NEON/VFP support.

You don’t need to root it, now. Skype just released a version that allows one to enable it. It actually default-enabled on my Streak
Hey The version that Skype released says Gingerbread is must…..more importantly on froyo it only supports rear cam so i would prefer this version from driodrx. Any body who has tried the new app of Skype(Released 04/08/11) from Market on stock 2.2.2 on streak 5 with FFC working Please post!!

I don’t want to mess to much anymore with my streak as I need it for work and can’t use app that might screw thing up…would love official FFC capabilities on Market ver. There should be no reason if works with non mark skypes…
Could you guys give me the latest copy of vtok. For some reason, I can’t find it on the market using my Atrix. On my Nexus S, I was able to download it but my device is not yet rooted and I cannot copy it. I’d be happy to work on this (with or without donations), after I’m finish updating skype. I had a quick look at it and I think it should be easier than skype because its code is not obfuscated and is easier to understand.
