Tired of searching through your entire contacts list to make a call? The HTC EVO combined with the built-in Smart Dial feature helps you easily find the right person within seconds.
Smart Dial lets you quickly choose and dial a contact with just a few keystrokes. Your contact list can be narrowed down by typing the beginning of the first or last names, the contact number, or even the person's initials. It is a fast and efficient way to make calls.
Another great feature is the ability to bring up contact info without having to exit the phone dialer. Just tap on the rolodex icon to the right of the contact. This is handy if you don't want to dial the default number and would rather shoot them a quick text or email, or just see address information.
If you are like me and have lots of contacts stored on your HTC EVO, Smart Dial is a great way to quickly access that person you need to get in touch with. My phone currently holds more than 400 contacts; I'm sure I could reduce it if I took the time to delete old entries, but Smart Dial is just easier to use.
Honestly, this is probably the single biggest reason I will stay with HTC. I had smart dial on every dumb phone I ever had and I love it it is so logical and makes sense (no pun intended). I have been using a loaner LG Optimus S for a week and I hate that I cannot smart dial…

Yeah, it’s incredibly useful… There’s lots of little things like this about Sense that constantly get ignored when users and even writers focus almost exclusively on the launcher, lockscreen, and whatnot. I think Moto eventually implemented this too, tho only recently.

Well, until I discovered how to use the voice dialing.
It’s so quick and easy. Sense really has some awesome built-in feature that are often overlooked. I notice them more when I use another phone or even my EVO 4G with CM7 ROM.
Yeah, voice dialing is another great way to call. But sometimes I get funny results from this. Maybe my accent?
I’ve always used smart dial, im just surprised that were acting like it’s new. I’ve used it since my htc hero then on my evo 4g and now my evo 3d. Thanks anyway.
I love this feature about Sense too. But in case any of you are off Sense and on AOSP, try Dialer One as an alternative dialer from the market. It’s free and works just as good (smart dial).
I would KILL!!! for the ability to turn that stupid number pad in to a keyboard . . . . There is absolutely no way to do that on my EVO3D as far as I can tell and I’m not planning on learning how to numpad type/text anytime soon.

Love this feature! I had an old phone that would let you do 4 digit dialing by entering the last 4 and it would dial, wish they would incorporate that into it too.
