A couple weeks ago, HTC announced that the HTC EVO 3D would officially be getting Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, sometime in early 2012. And one of the new features of Ice Cream Sandwich that Google has been touting is its revamped keyboard, which improves on Gingerbread's auto-correction, multi-touch features, and more.
But why wait for ICS to officially get here, when you can get this new keyboard now? And who knows if HTC will even allow this keyboard to make the cut? (Chances are, HTC will implement their own version, similar to what they've done on all EVOs up to today.)
Lucky for us, developer johntami has pulled the apk for the keyboard directly from ICS, and made it available for download right now from the Android Market. Even non-rooted users can install this and get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich today.
So be sure to check it out at the links below, and let us know how it's working out for you!

No ability to edit the user dictionary. I enjoyed that feature w/ GB keyboard.
I’ve been using this for about a week so far and it’s been pretty good. It also works good on the EVO View as well.
I have fallen in love with Swype and can’t go back to “stab” typing
SwiftKey X is by far one of the best keyboards out there. It has one of the most impressive predictive text capabilites, automatically adds words to the dictionary(easily removeable too), and ability to use two languages at once is just awesome for Spanglish (or any other mash of languages) texting!
Just for kicks I will try this out.
is there no smilies key?
nope just use menu and more insert smilies
I have been using this for the past 2 weeks and I have noticed an improvement over the gingerbread keyboard. Go for it!
It gets updated often, but I am never having the issues that were being fixed.
Meh SwiftKey or swype. I have both. Hhhhmmmm will I lose swype with the update?
I just installed it on my EVO 4G. Noticed that it occupies 4.2mb of my primary memory, and apparently can’t be moved to SD storage.
But I’ll play with it some more before I delete to save space. One of these days, I really need to Root my EVO 4G. It’s not like there hasn’t been a ton of resources posted about that subject on this website, right?
today’s update added smilies. Just long press the ‘enter’ key
I’ve been using swiftkey but ever since the last update the prediction has been crappy and I spend most of my time going back and editing words…I’ll give the ICS one a try
just installed on my EVO 3D ut can’t seem to get it working. I enabled it under settings/language and Keyboard, however it won’t come up. Am I doing something wrong?
Did you long-press and hold in a text field than choose input method?
Do it! I just did with my 4G and couldn’t be happier. Started with the guide from this site:
http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/11/state-of-the-htc-evo-root-world-november-2011.html
And then used info from XDA:

And now my phone is running faster, is more customizable, gets me better battery life (though I attribute this largely to Juice Defender, which I wasn’t using before) and (in my opinion) looks nicer overall.
Oh, and more free internal memory without the Sprint and HTC stuff, which was what really drove me to root in the first place. Was tired of constantly getting out of memory errors.
