I recently switched back to the stock voicemail app that comes with the HTC EVO 4G, and it didn't take long for me to be bothered by the Voicemail-to-Text trial button that is always there. It doesn't really get in the way of doing anything and maybe it doesn't bug you, but I personally think it's a little annoying to see it all the time.
Thanks to my cheek, however, I found out that you can easily remove this button and make your voicemail screen look a little less cluttered.
All you have to do is long press right below the "Try Voicemail-to-Text FREE" trial button on the voicemail screen. A pop-up will appear that will let you select "Hide Free trial button." Tap it, and it's gone!

If you go under settings you can update the voicemail app for the 4G and 3d which changes the icon and allows messages to be saved to the SD card.
I don;t know about anyone else, but in my experience, the voice-to-text function is utterly useless.
If a person leaves me a message saying:
“I’m waiting at the airport, please pick me up.”
The message I get is:
“Eyeballs weigh air, please pack nose.”
Seriously. It is useless except for being a little funny occasionally.
thank you. that button was driving me nuts
Thanks!
It doesn’t seem to work on my EVO 3D
Doesn’t work for me!
Worked on my EVO 3D, thanks!
If this trick is not working for you (Hal & Brian) then you are still on the old version of the voice-mail app. To update open the voice-mail app and press “Menu”, then “Settings” and finally “Check for update”. If you did then maybe you’re pressing the subscribe button and you need to be pressing just below it? Press and hold a few seconds and the message will pop up. To check your versions; the old version was T.5.1.0.60 and the new one is T.5.2.0.24.
The update changes the voice-mail icon to a, IMHO, nasty yellow color and still doesn’t fix the notification icon missing bug but the updates are enormous: the update adds the ability to hide the subscription button, receive repeat notifications for new messages, change the sort order of messages, mark read messages as unread, add voice-mail callers to contacts, adds simple folders (Inbox, Outbox Deleted, SD Card) and allows messages to be saved to your SD card. So that is a pretty big list of new features if still not a few bugs.
Why they still haven’t fixed the notification bug and why they changed the voice-mail icon to that nasty yellow thing is beyond me!? The voice transcription is horrible like most have said but if you really need it Google Voice does it for FREE and better. I happen to prefer the stock voice-mail app although I wish someone can mod the icon and Widget back to the old icon, lol.
About a year ago I used the send feedback link on the voicemail app to send feedback on that stupid text transcription button. I basically said that it should be allowed to be removed in the settings or something. I then sent that message from 4 different evos and changed the wording, lol. I think they got the message but declined to tell anyone about it. But at least they do listen! Now everyone send a message about the notification icon and the crappy new icon!
I called Sprint and had Voicemail completely removed from my account. I didn’t like it and most of the time it was a pain because I was trying to call people back and they were leaving me a message.
I remember this dude went on this huge rant about how he hates the button and it shouldn’t be taking up space on the screen he pays for. He was even talking about transfering all of his accounts out of Sprint over the button. lol. It has never bothered me because I rarely get VMs and when i do I use Google Voice, which also has voice to text which works a lot better, but still with its own flaws.
I use You Mail so I don’t know about this button but I did get a message the other day about updating my VM and I did even though I don’t use it.
POOP DOLLAR!!!!!
You were correct. I needed to do an update which I wasn’t aware of. Now the button is hidden. Thanks.
Only problem is, if you have a fat face, when you’re listening to voicemail… it can pop back up.
That was easy, thanks!
This is the single most annoying thing Sprint does on the EVO 4G LTE. If we’re not interested we should be able to remove the button forever. I hate that thing. Makes me want to switch to Verizon just to get rid of this annoying button that’s easily pressable just in the act of listening to an ordinary voicemail. Shame on Sprint.
