Although we knew that an official Dell Ice Cream Sandwich update would never come, the official word always stings a bit. Today, Dell's "Social Media Outreach" Twitter feed, @DellCares, confirmed what we all knew already.
Here's exactly what the tweet said:
"@giveen Unfortunately, no plans to develop ICS for Streak7. See here if you are interested in unofficial version del.ly/6018RUTp -AB"
The link leads to a DJ_Steve YouTube video, showing off his pre-alpha ICS build for the tablet.
Even though this is bad news, it was to be expected. That's the beauty of Android, though: developers can do basically anything they want with devices, and oftentimes support them way longer than the original manufacturer had ever even thought of.
Thoughts? Cares? I honestly don't have many feelings on this issue since it was basically a given.
[@DellCares tweet] Thanks, Giveen!

no surprise if you bought streak 5
I received my 2nd DS7 yesterday, it is running 2.2.2 The DS7 I got last week had 3.2?(I don’t have of with me now) As long as I can get to 3.x I am good. Never expected ICS on these or my DS5.
My DS5 is the one that needs an update. Looking forward to that gingerbread we read about yesterday. I just need some time to sit down and get it done.
Peace
Would have liked it as I have it running on my phone and it is an awesome OS. But I have no major complaints about my DS7 (Except the intermittent reboot). I’ll keep it at least another 6 months until I see what else new comes out at a “normal” price that is running ICS.
Hopefully in the next 6 months we would have ICS done. We are dealing with some kernel issues right now.
They should change their twitter account to @DellNotCares..
I would love to root my ds7 to get a custom rom but how do i do this? Im running 3.2.
Please see TabletRoms.com
I am fine with just running Honeycomb on my 2 Streak 7′s, but does anyone know if now that Dell is scrapping them, are they going to do any updates to Dell Stage or new widgets? Love some updates there…
