No matter which HTC EVO device you own, and no matter how many OTA updates you have taken, there is now officially nothing stopping you from rooting your phone. This is all thanks to HTC Supertool, a new method of rooting almost all HTC Android devices, and it's been confirmed to work on the HTC EVO 4G, the EVO 3D, the EVO Design 4G, the EVO View 4G, and even the red-headed stepchild better known as the EVO Shift 4G.
In addition to unlocking the bootloader and rooting your phone, this tool offers additional options to "De-Sense" your phone, re-enable Sense, unroot your phone, relock the bootloader, enable wireless tethering, and flash a new(er) version of the Android Market.
I can't personally test this on my EVO View tablet, as it's currently out for repairs. And my EVO 3D is already rooted and running Fresh 4.1.0 (a great ROM, by the way!). But if you have held off on rooting until an easier method were to come along, this might be just what you're looking for.
Download links and full instructions are at the link below. And if you end up giving this a shot, be sure to let us know how you like it!

Can someone make a video on how to use it
Rooting the phone sounds so complicated. im trying to understand it.
Its not hard at all with this tool! Just make sure you have HTC drivers on your Windows PC (if you have HTC Sync installed already, youve got them – if not, its a quick download from HTCs website). Then, download this tool, unzip the file, run the program, connect your EVO to your computer, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Does this work with HBOOT 1.50 on CDMA?
I really hate not having S-OFF
i almost want to unroot my phone just to give this method a try!
lots of problems with that super tool and no help from developer 85 complaints and cry’s for help with 0 response “just throwing that out there “
Video would be nice for nobs
Awesome! my 3d is getting rooted later.
I agree…I am a newbie but am interested in trying to root phone, but am scared…if someone could post a video that woudl be great…
I tried it on my EVO 3D..It gave me an error message “cannot find specific path” when I tried to Prep the phone which is the first step.
Any confirmation on EVO 3D HBOOT 1.5 ???
Reading thru’ that thread, looks like EVO 3D (CDMA) with HBOOT 1.5 is not rootable using this tool…
It said the same thing when I tried it on my htc evo 4g. it can’t find the specific path.
Cool!!! I just might be in!!! I wanna root but not so comfortable with the idea….. Til now
That sucks. I hope it’s not true for all.
Confused! clicked on link and there are 13 choices for download, which one?
It asked me if i wanted to root my htc evo view, and I don’t have that. I have a evo 4g.
after the prep step my evo rebooted and cant get it to connect via usb
Seems to me as a no go on evo 4g running 2.3.3 passed prep step then failed everything in the root step//
Agree.
had my hopes up still waiting for root with hboot 1.50… htc you suck, great phone but you suck. curse you hboot 1.50
well I have an evo 3d with 1.5 hbot and now i have disabled the sense launcher… but i wish i would have known this was going to wipe my device… i thought it was going to root it like the old unrevoked without deleting my apps… oh well, something to do now
So Alejandro does that mean you have rooted your phone?with hboot 1.50:-)
So you can desense your phone???!!! I see one person says they managed to do this. Do you have to root your phone at the same time? I’m rooted with S-on on hboot 1.5. It would be nice to desense just to see what it is like. And would I need to be running the stock rom?
yes but dont pop the champagne… im still s-on, rooted
EVO 3d:
no root, no s-off for HB 1.50
EVO 4G:
potential root, potential S-off (same tools as revolutionary I think)
I just tried running it. Followed instructions to download the RAR file, unzip it to temp directory on my laptop (Win 7 Pro x64), connected HTC EVO with USB cable, USB debugging enabled. I’m up to date on all uploads, android version 2.3.3, etc.
My HTC EVO has 4 choices of connect. “Charge only”, “Disk Drive”, “HTC Sync”, or “Tether”. Instructions don’t say which modem to envoke. I tried all 4 with same (non) results.
BAT file opens DOS window, slow title appears 1 char at a time, then repeats, then a credit screen opens & flashes color backgrounds.
That’s it… Nothing happens. Tried all 4 connection modes, without change.
Yes, my laptop recognized the phone as an Android Phone, will open in “disk drive” mode to allow access to SD card. Will connect via all four modes.
Guess I’ll wait for v2.5 ???

I’m wanting a method to ROOT that doesn’t wipe the phone back to factory status please. I’ve got various backup programs running to back stuff up (non-rooted), but it would be a royal pain (love that tv show on USA Network) to have to recreate everything from backups. Don’t know if this method allows that or not, nothing specifically addresses that point in the instructions / cautions.

So does this or does this not work on hboot 1.50? Seems to me this may be a waste of time as most people that aren’t rooted today will most likely have hboot 1.50. Someone please let me know. I would love to root my 3d and get wifi tether back not to mention better battery life. thanks
Did it end up asking you to go to HTC’s site and get the code from there?
Thanks for the responses everyone – we will consider the possibility of making a video in the future, that’s a great suggestion! As far as hboot 1.5 on the EVO 3D – this tool will send you to the htcdev site to unlock your phone. It’s not as great as s-off, but this tool will still help you get root access.
Don’t know if I want htc and sprint knowing that I rooted. I wish revolution would get on it already. They were going so strong and now after the 1.50 update its like they stopped working on it or its just really hard to break. I wonder if the replacements that sprint gives you have 1.50 or have an earlier version? Oh well. By the time that 1.50 hboot is cracked june will be here and I’ll be eligible for the lte evo!
Tried with EVO View stock with all available OTAs installed including Honeycomb. Will not prepare also will not root. Unlocked with HTC dev site, unlocked, but still not rooted. Tried this tool again after unlock, still won’t prep or root. Any advice?
I would assume that any 3D supplied by Sprint would be 1.5. And yeah, I really wish someone would break through on getting 1.5 hacked. Seems like forever.
I’m so sick of this!!! Revalutionary gave up because HTC made a way to do it.. Evil Dev is still working on it but it’s nobody’s priority.. Damn it!! I want my 1.50 Shooter Evo 3D Rooted!! There’s got to be 1 genius out there that can figure this out!!
I root my EVO 3D wit this but it is only temporary root after reboot root goes away
Really considering selling my EVO3D since rooting it seems like a pain in the ass.
yes it did… at first i was thinking that the chances of htc actually helping me if I broke the phone were slim… who cares that they know I’m rooted
Yeah, by the time they root 1.50 Sprint will have a new evo with lte. Since my upgrade is in June I may just bite the bullet and do it the htc way. Does anyone know if you do it the htc way, can you still install custom roms using ROM manager. I just loved using it with my evo 4g when I had it.
I believe that you can flash custom roms, just not custom kernels that way
Fekkin fek fek fek Fekkity fek! I was hoping this was gonna be easy. It doesn’t sound so easy after reading all these posts. Please let a moron like me root like a pro. Curse my ineptitude!!!!
you know if sprint has to give you a reforbished phone it most likely be hboot 1.40 tru insurance thou
I got it to work (I think) on my evo 3D. Just a few questions. Are we supposed to keep the bootloader unlocked? or do you lock the bootloader after you have rooted?
Thanks.
I just got a new evo3d cause I lost my last one. It doesn’t have hboot 1.5. But I’m not gonna use this root method cause I want s-off!
This doesn’t work on the View with HC only gingerbread.
I will have to try this on my htc EVO 4g later.
Has anyone gotten the htc evo design 4g wireless hotspot or wireless tether to work ….free.
And how?
Yes, everything works with the EVO Design. After using the supertool to get root I installed Wifi Tether. At first I wasn’t able to connect to the internet but it worked after I went to settings and enabled “MSS clamping” and “Routing fix”.
Thank you for the quick response. I will give it a shot.
If it doesn’t give you s-off, what root method will work to root it other then revolutionary(which you don’t need this tool for anyway)
I want to root my evo 4g but I’m not crazy about the revolutionary root.although that’d what I gave now!
Once you root and unlock boot loader, keep it unlocked. If you lock it back, you loose root. Unlock is the root world.
