The past week here at StreakSmart has been pretty somber, as our Dell Streak 7 was officially discontinued last week. On top of that, more companies are starting to release products that directly compete with our beloved Streak 5 phoneblet, like Samsung and Lenovo. We're going to talk about the former in this post because Engadget has put together an awesome Galaxy Note vs. Streak 5 gallery. I've handpicked the best pictures and they will be shown off past the break.
We thought this deserved a mention on StreakSmart since a lot of you have been debating on whether to keep going forward with your Streak 5 or take the plunge with the Galaxy Note.

Bought the Note. Love it.
my next phone!!!
I have the streak 5 now (uk verson 308) im bout to order my note from the uk as well (im in the us) I wanna know if the note can be use primarly on landscape?
Just looks like more of the same. I want something new.
Those of you who pick it up, keep in touch here and let us know how it works out. Not going to bother going to find the Samsung Note forum. I read too many sites already.
Peace
I should be getting the Note early next week and can answer questions/test things. I may do a couple of write-ups about it here and on Pocketables if I have time, but if not, I’ll field questions in the forum or something.
i have had my note for a couple of weeks note and i love it. it is the perfect successor to the dell streak – lighter, more powerful and with gorgeous screen. put it this way i had no problem signing up for a 24 month contract with o2 because i know my head will not be turned by a new phone just around the corner.
as for landscape mode, yes, nearly everything auto rotates (with a slick animation) except for the the home screen. but a quick test with go launcher ex shows that it is posible. for me, right now, i’m going to stick to the samsung launcher.
hope this helps

Have the note.
Works pretty good. Looks good. Feels good.
On moderate work load, battery holds for about 3 days for me . .
If siyah kernel gets ported to this, then it will be 90-95% perfect.
This is, basically, what we all had hoped for the Dell Opus One to be.
And the note will be getting ICS as far as rumors go . .
“Works pretty good.” SERIOUSLY????? For $800US it better be a lot better than “pretty good”!!!
How about some specifics of where it falls short of expectations. We’ve all heard the good stuff already.
anyone in the US get a streak? does it work with AT&T “4G”?
sorry I meant Note, not streak
I am a photographer and my Streak 5 has always been a great way to quickly show my work to potential clients. The samsung OLED screens have their contrast and saturation boosted up more than normal, so my photos get blown out. Found the same thing on the note’s (otherwise pretty good) screen.
Does anyone know if the note’s SAMOLED+ screen can be manually color calibrated?
On a side note: I must say that the note feels nowhere as special as the Streak does to me. The streak has a ‘made with love’ feel to it while the note just feels like it dropped out of an enlarged unimaginative samsung mould.
I am probably going to stick it out with the streak for a little longer in the hope that dell just might dazzle us all once more.
I promise you here and now…. Dell won’t ever “dazzle” in the mobile space ever again. Period.
They made a couple of great products (Streak and Venue Pro) but literally DARED customers to like them. They made every PR mistake in the book and alienated a ton of end users, myself included.
Samsung hasn’t been spectacular, with their lack of Android upgrades, but they’ve proven they don’t HATE their customers… therefore, the Note WILL be my next phone.
My sister bought a Note and I compared it to my Streak 5 (we’re both in the US and her Note is from France). I’d love a Note but I had a hard time justifying the sale price of my Streak. I think the Note has got it right for content creation, the S-pen allows input to take advantage of the screen’s resolution. That combined with the processor make it a delight to use! The handwriting recognition was great -as much of a fan of a Palm’s graffiti as I was I found the Note’s pen input to be just as enjoyable. She has hers on AT&T with a pre-pay plan.
$680 is a heck of a lot of money. The Streak works (most) of the time so I’m not sure how I can justify buying the note. So conflicted.
(and I even have “permission” from the wife!)
I played with the Galaxy Note but really…..too much going on there for me. This whole drawing thing with the S Pen is useless for me. But the Galaxy Note really IS some serious eye candy. Nonetheless, I stay with my Streak 5, which I love to use, abuse, hack, tweak, and unlock the heck out of it
Hi Jenn im your fan and would like to ask if your going to built another site like streaksmart for galaxy note it would be great. I think that most of the dell streak users are eyeing for the galaxy note. Hope for your reply.
No, we have no plans to start a Note-specific site.
I’m thinking about covering it here and maybe letting StreakSmart evolve into a site about the Streak and competitors/Streak-like devices, though. I haven’t decided yet but given the state of the Streak line, it might make sense, especially since the Note (and maybe the Lenovo LePad S2005) is so appealing to people here.
it works with At&t’s HSPA+ network but not LTE.
What’s the sites name or url
So jenn will streak smart have note news like dell streak?
I’m not sure yet. As mentioned above, this site may eventually become one that covers the Streak and other Streak-like devices (such as the Note).
If we decide to start covering the Note, it will be done here. StreakSmart’s name and URL won’t change; we’ll just broaden its focus.
I have the Note, love it! If you love the Streak 5 you will love the Note the same if not More… HD superAMOLED, 5.3″ screen with terrific color and res, 1.4 GHz dual-core Exynos chip, along with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of USB storage and 2GB of app storage… you can of course add more, 2.3.6 Gingerbread and Sams supposed to be updating it to Icecream sand in the near future, 8mp cam and 2mp out front. The Note is fast, and stable even after downloading and using 3 different launchers and lots of apps. Slingbox looks amazing on this 5.3″ screen. The battery life, surprisingly, is very good even after heavy use and The “S-pen” ain’t bad either. Oh and no At&t bloatware.
)
I’ve had the Streak 5 and loved it but the Note is certainly worth the money for those of you who are on the fence.
The only thing I wish the Note had is the all aluminum body.
I use it on At&t HSPA+ and in lame signal areas, 3g in so-cal..LA
When you initially put in your sim you’ll notice that you are not able to pick up the data signal. There is a comment after one of the reviews of the Note at Androidcentral which will ,step-by-step, help you change the APN settings. After that HSPA+…
At&t does not recognize the Note in their system so don’t waste your time calling them and asking them to update your equipment on your account by entering the Note’s IMEI. Just like the Streak, the reps are clueless robots who only know what At&t currently carries. I am waiting to see how much more data the Note will need as far as my current 2gig plan via At&t. Hopefully I will not have to adjust and up it to the $45 4gig.
Honestly, if you love your Streak, you’ll love the Note. I hate that Dell dropped the ball on such a cool device such as the Streak but… life goes on.
Thank you Streaksmart for your continued support and information concerning the Streak. If anyone has any Note questions, I’ll be happy to give feedback.
With the Note I get the same curious questions and envy from iLovers, Evomaniacs, Blackberrians and others, the same as when I had the Streak
If the Note gets the ICS update does that mean that the hardware buttons will be useless?
You just need to change the APN settings to automatically switch your plan over from your Streak to the Note.
The “soft” buttons will not show up, from what I’ve read.
I bought the Note last week, and wow. THIS is an experience. I got 38hrs out of a single charge two days ago, and yesterday I had 32hrs. As soon as the screen turns off, it power saves like a champ. Heavy use drains the battery due to the screen size (naturally), but moderate use will get you epic lengths of battery life. Even with heavy use it lasts longer than my Streak battery did.
As a year long Streak user, I have to say this is an upgrade in every way. I own 2 Dell Streaks (had to buy that elusive white one when it showed up at Best Buy) so my heart will always be with them. They were the first step to a truly awesome phone- the Note.
The stylus seems cheesy, but you’ll use it. A lot more than you think. Especially for jotting notes or making annotations on screen shots. So helpful. Plus it makes surfing the internet and clicking on URL’s a breeze.
I highly recommend it to all of you hesitant Streak owners.
There is an LTE version coming to at&t, but it’ll have a 1.5ghz snapdragon gpu. The current unlocked GSM version has a 1.4ghz dual core exynos gpu- which is far superior to the snapdragon.
I hope so! This used to be my go-to site for my Streaks. I need a new go-to for my Note!
Well, after almost 1 year and a half, my Dell Streak died. Screen is broken. This is a very sad day for me. I was in love with my Streak. Again last month while spending a week of vacation in Vegas, countless people asked me what was this big phone.
Today I ordered the Galaxy Note. The wife got the brand new Galaxy Nexus but it is too small for my taste.
I sure hope Streak Smart will keep update with Dell Streak alike phones.
RIP Dell Streak, Long live the Galaxy Note!
Have the streak5 since it was available in the US and the streak7 and am now typing this out on my new
Galaxy Note. Loved the 5 and 7 but the Note beats them both hands down on ALL aspects. I’m in the US and its probably never officially coming over here so I had to pay almost $700 for it unlocked to work with At$t service and it was worth every penny. The only thing am gonna miss about the Streak, is having the support of StreakSmarts awesome community. Thanks to Jen Lee and DJ.Steve for all your awesome work, will miss this website
That is good jenn
Anyway out of the topic
Dell streak is in the ghost protocall MI4.
Tom cruise using it to track the bad guy.
I will buy your broken streak from you
please let me know,
Thanks
Anyone know where to get an unlocked Note with the option of a protection plan ?
Try new egg. I got mine there. Didn’t get a protection plan but i think i remember seeing the option??? good luck
Hi every one that is dell streak users.
I tend to agree with AJ on this, its like, dell has not really been mas producing there smart phones and even though the note look better spec wise, you will always just be another galaxy user and with the big BIG range of galaxies out there, you will always find yourself trying to explain witch one you have.
I had the Galaxy S, I had it for a long time, and it seemed that it was new one day and old the next, but with my dell it seem newer than any of the new stuff even though its been discontinued it still is the best and most lovable android I’ve had, and I feel that your phone defines who you are.
I will also try an stick it out and see what dell has to offer, and if you look at the new dell streak pro, and the gingerbread update for the dell streak5 you might even have a bit more hope.
I have one if you want it let’s talk
