If you are still touting an original HTC EVO 4G, and you are stuck in a contract without an available upgrade, listen up. From now until the end of the year, Sprint is offering certain "high value" customers the chance to upgrade early at full discount in corporate-owned retail stores only.
Right now, it's unclear exactly what "high value" means to Sprint in terms of this unadvertised internal promotion, but I wouldn't be surprised if many customers who were formerly classified as "Premier Gold" would be eligible. Keep in mind that a new two-year contract is required (of course), and that this offer only seems to be available in-store; customers are not reporting any success with tele-sales.
In any case, it seems like a great opportunity to see what all the fuss surrounding the EVO 3D is about, or to get your hands on an EVO world-phone if you plan on traveling abroad anytime soon. So if you are able to successfully upgrade early, please share your experience below!

They are just trying to get rid of wi-max enabled phones. I bet you there is a catch for iphones. Either way their lineup of androids is pathetic when compared to the other carriers.
Yeah they know people are holding off on upgrading wondering what’s going on with the LTE situation.
It says Iphones are eligible in the details section. If you’re into that sort of thing
( former Iphone owner )
I saw this early upgrade on my account.
I have 4 evo 4g’s
We love them. Go cm7.
One kid wants a shift or epic.
If I was gonna upgrade now, it would be a galaxy s 2.
I have been a Sprint customer for over 10 years.
Guess what? They told me I am not eligible for this promotion.
I am only 5 weeks shy from my normal upgrade date, and all I get is a flat NO.
Apparently I am not a “high value” customer…
Thanks Sprint!!!
Same here. I’ve been a customer for 11 years, apparently I’m not eligible for another 22 months when my upgrade is in June. Gotta love outsourcing. Going to Sprint store tomorrow.
Someone please let us know what “high value” means.
Remember — this article says “in-store only,” so don’t be surprised when tele-sales says no!
This promotion is legit. I just upgraded my wife from 4g to an iPhone, as painful as that was. Now she is officially an iSheep.
I’m holding onto my EVO and waiting for LTE to arrive next year.
There’s been a thread on slickdeals about this for the past week or so. Seems like a lot of people have been getting early upgrades. Calling the 800 number seems to have less success. Some people are also getting messages that they qualify when they log into their sprint accounts online.
I wish I knew this a day ago! I called to upgrade a phone on my account as a Christmas gift. I tried to upgrade a line on my account that was 41 days from renewal with tele-sales it was a firm NO!. I tried with another line on my account that was only 10 days away from upgrade…again NO! I had to threaten to cancel my account and get to account services before they let me upgrade the 10 day line.
Six months ago they were offering to early upgrade 2 months before contract end. now its pulling teeth over 10 Days! Unfortunately it seems Sprint Customer Service is slipping back to the Sprint of old.
The SE4GT seems to be at the Top of the Mountain, (the Sprint variant,) including All phones offered by all carriers, including the Nexus Galaxy by Verizon.
I purchased the SE4GT privately, so as not to renew my contract. And I’m eligible for an Upgrade. Don’t wanna lock into a contract before I see what’s going on with Sprint.
Looks like Lightsquared is Dead in the Water as predicted, for now.
Failed the GPS interference tests with 75% conflict with existing systems.
What happened to the rumored new evo that rockstar games tipped off in their post? Why supposedly to be released in December?
Update. After talking to another Sprint associate, it seems that if the last upgrade that you used fell in some mystery time frame in the past, then, and only then are you eligible for this promotion. They would not share the specifics of the qualifications.
I can’t figure out how that makes some people “high value” and others like me are not. Thanks Sprint! You aren’t “high value” to me either!
it has nothing to do with customer service. If corporate hasn’t approved an offer being made for an account, the answer is no.
do you only have one line?
I have a 5-line family plan with data. None of the lines are eligible and they have 4 different time frames in which each line was upgraded. This mystery time frame window must be pretty small, or maybe I am just very lucky.
Just went and checked, they said I’m able to upgrade. My next upgrade is July 1st 2012. I got the EVo 4g in Sept 2010. They also said they would give me $90 for my EVO 4g. Thinking about upgrading to a iphone 4s.
I went to a corporate Sprint Store today and the sales associate didn’t even look up my account and said only people who were with in 15 days of their upgrade eligibility could do this. I didn’t like his answer so I went to another store and guess what?? They associate looked at my account and said I was eligible now even though my normal anniversary is not until 8/1/12. He couldn’t/wouldn’t say what the determines if you are eligible. I wanted to trade in my EVO for a Iphone but decided not to and wait for the Iphone 5 next year.
Called a few weeks ago to see what I could do for an early upgrade on 2 of my lines. Was told to go pound sand as those lines had another year left. I explained that a competitor was offering to buy out my Sprint contracts (all 4 lines) and give me new phones free (HTC 4g). No luck. Called back last week for a final check and was finally offered this deal after explaining I was about to bail. Was told all 4 line were eligible. Opted in for the 2, and all was ready in 24 hours. Went to a local non-Sprint store who had the best price on new phones. Called back this week to do the remaining lines was refused.
It took some pushing, but was finally approved, and now have all lines upgraded.
most data share plan accts are high value so it’s most likely that your upgrade date is too far away to get this offer
hmmm,
I have 1 upgrade coming up in 5 weeks.
1 upgrade in 5-6 months.
The other lines on my account are all over 1 year out.
None are eligible.
I emailed customer service as well. I’m due in 2 weeks. They told me I could upgrade early if my phone was broken. Or I could call in and pay 199 for a new 3d evo. I went over to best buy in the girl called in and got me upgrade early paid 50 bucks for evo 3d. Merry christmas to me!
