Late last night, HTC posted a reminder on its blog that it is still planning on bringing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, to a bunch of its existing devices, including the HTC EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G. Unfortunately, we know just about as much as we knew last month; in other words, we still don't have a time table, other than "soon."
From HTC's official blog post:
Few innovations have improved upon ice cream as much putting it between two cookies and making a sandwich. Which is why we all want Ice Cream Sandwich! Ok, that’s not the real reason, but we’re all excited about Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, coming to HTC … Please note, once we start pushing out updates it will take time for all carriers in each country to get the update. We are working closely with our carrier partners to nail down update schedules for our other smartphones and will have more to share very soon.
HTC did mention that it's still in the early stages of pushing the update out for the HTC Sensation 4G, with the Sensation XL soon to follow. But as far as the situation for other devices, we're still in the dark.
Come on, HTC. You were the first with Froyo for the HTC EVO 4G, so what's taking so long with your current line up?

The crazy thing is that the nexus s hasn’t even gotten it yet at least not the wimax version. I’m pissed about my 3d getting pushed back with all of the other US HTC phones but I’d be going insane if my pure Google experience phone was rumored to not even get ics now. Meanwhile samsung has started on gs2 ics updates already. They need to stop with promises that we’ve been hearing for 6 months and at least give us something better than soon.
Thanks for the info.. Quick? ? when they do release this stuff will it improve existing or soon to be custom roms for evo4g.? Cm9.. Etc..? I still have not tried any of the ics roms because I don’t wanna have to switch back and forth considering none that know of are complete as of yet.
Thanks for the update and any more information
CM9 is ICS… but is based from AOSP source. Other Dev’s may take pieces and port them to AOSP ICS. It would certainly help EVO 3D ICS ROM’s because many of the device specific drivers are closed source and having a ICS build with those drivers already in place from the OEM can only help.
If/when HTC releases the source for ICS… would drastically take off (especially for things like custom kernels).
Yeah i haven’t heard when Cm9 will release for evo4g. I know that’s kinda what I’m waiting for because I’m currently using cm7.1 and love it. Also use Go launcher with it. Seems pretty sleek and obviously with the combination of both of them it’s quite customizable. I’m just anxious for fully working ics rom.
Thanks for the info
HTC is letting us down! I have the original — the Real — HTC EVO. And mine is stock.
But HTC let us down! Apparently we’re left with Android 2.3 because they don’t want us to use the Real EVO anymore.
However, mine still works perfectly. So, I guess I’ll have to root it.
Is exactly what I was thinking. I have had my original evo since launch day and last fall decided to root.. Couldn’t be happier. If it wasn’t for me being physical and a lil rough on it (speaker is kinda blown& few dings) I would probably rock this thing until next year…. Well past my 2yr agreement.
