What a Friday it's been! With the HTC EVO 3D disappearing from Sprint's site, and word that the EVO Design 4G might make its way to Boost Mobile, it seems like Sprint is doing everything it can to clear out its existing stock of WiMAX EVOs in order to make room for the new EVO 4G LTE.
And apparently, Amazon Wireless isn't any different.
We just got word that all current Sprint 4G smartphones are a penny, which includes the EVO 3D in black and plum and the EVO Design 4G in black. This price is good for new customers, existing customers upgrading on an individual plan, and customers who wish to add a line.
It certainly seems that WiMAX phones are going to become a rarity, and sooner rather than later. So if you're in the market for a new phone, and you've got great WiMAX coverage now, and you don't expect LTE anytime soon, then jump on this while you still can.

Unfortunately, I can’t preorder the EVO LTE for a penny

NOPE – Amazon Wireless site only giving 1 cent price to NEW SPRINT CUSTOMERS only. UPGRADE MY PHONE at $79.99 and ADD A LINE at $29.99 & REPLACEMENT PHONE at $589.99.
Go to the site, push some buttons.
That must have just changed, or there was a problem on my end, because I did push some buttons!
I will check this out and correct the article. Thanks!
too expensive!!!!

This could be a good deal for people that don’t have great WiMAX coverage too. All of the smartphones are great for a lot of people and many won’t come close to being limited by the phones’ capabilities. Many aren’t powerusers and don’t use large amounts of data.
Also, it could turn out to be wishful thinking again that 4G will be available soon. We’ve been waiting in a major area of Florida since Aug. 2010 for WiMAX. Who knows if and when LTE will actually be available. Sprint is having financial problems and this could turn out to be another empty promise on Sprint’s part.
Yes, you have to commit to today’s technology for two years but you just might not need more and you save $199.98.
Another option is not to renew your contract and buy a used phone from someone buying one of the new LTE phones. It shouldn’t be long before many of the WiMAX phones become available as soon as people are getting the new LTE phones. And when you get LTE in your area, then get an LTE phone.
