G&E has just received confirmation from a reliable source with a proven track record that the HTC EVO 4G LTE will be released on Friday, May 18. Along with this, we have obtained exclusive images of some of the marketing materials that should be making their way to Sprint stores by May 14, with ample time to be put on display by the 18th.
This information confirms previous rumors about the latest EVO hitting store shelves on this date, and I have to say this is much better than initial rumors that pegged the device for a June 6 release.
Preorders for the EVO 4G LTE will open up on May 7, and customers can sign up on Sprint's site or through Best Buy to get a reminder. It will sell for $199.99 on contract, although I'm hoping that a third-party retailer like Amazon Wireless will offer a better deal, just like they are with the HTC One X.

I’m glad they didn’t push it to June… I could do without the Beats marketing but I’m sure it helps sell the thing (even if its a total equalizer gimmick).

None of Sprint’s marketing materials will have the release date. These are all store signs.
I always buy my phones from Best Buy, i used to work there and still know a lot of employees, if i ever have any problems they help me out so much faster then sprint. Only reason i bring it up is the sale on amazon for the one x. if something is offered like that on the new evo. i wonder if bestbuy will price match it On top of the $50 gift card. (probably not though)

OMG! This is great news I so hope it’s true. I signed up for Best Buys phone freedom and get an additional 50 bucks off so I will pay 150. So if I can sell my phone 2 cases 2 docks extra batteries and wall charger for 250-300 I will be happy. Need to get this phone free plus be able to at least buy a case and a dock. I have a car dock and a dock I keep next to my bed now and I love them. I hope accessories come out for this phone soon. My upgrade is due on June 1st but I just called Sprint and they said if I call back on the 17th they will mark me for upgrade on May 18th. They said I can upgrade 2 weeks early but she can’t mark it on my account now it will have to be on the 17th. So I really hope the 18th is when it comes out.

Until sprint gives me LTE in phoenix I will not sign another contract, not this time around, they got me with the OG evo with the false promise of wimax. I still want to try this new EVO though, I will have to trade my Iphone 4s or Epic 4G for this one.
My third EVO is calling, in HD Voice and with a future LTE connection.

If there was any hope of 4g in the next year id consider picking one up but Jersey gets no love from sprint and the so called 3g is unusable. The htc phablet coming to verizon will probably bemy next phone. 1080p display and built in scribe tech.
I guarantee you they will have LTE in Los Angeles. I just don’t know why the major markets aren’t the first to get LTE.
I’ll wait until June or July to see if they come out with a Silver or White version. Maybe by then Sprint will have LTE here.
Well I just read another article
that said it didn’t pass some LTE something or other thing in the lab and that there is no way it can be released on the 18th but who knows. I signed up for Best Buys Phone Freedom also and I can’t wait for this phone. I just called my store and they said they had no idea all they knew was the May 7th preorder date but there just not telling.
Major markets are the hardest ones to get going. Especially in big cities like LA, NYC, etc..

Rumor on s4gru says they will start building lte here in November. I can live with that because I wouldn’t want to climb up one of those towers when it’s 110+ out. I’m going to give them 2 more years and if no lte then I’ll shop around.

That’s what I was thinking. The images say nothing about the release date either. I’m glad they trust their source, but this is far from confirmed. I do feel good about it though.
That nay be and old article. The group Sprint was working with, to set up the LTE, was havingproblems getting FCC approval. I’m not sure what the status is, but that shouldn’t interfere with the release of this phone.

I just spoke to someone at sprint and he says it should be about a week after pre orders are see which is may 7th. Confirmed the 18th accidentally. He said it and then tried correcting what he let slip out. Here is hoping for that to be truth.
Just a little something to make your day easier: If you have had Sprint at least a year and are at most a year from your upgrade you can call account services and have them move your upgrade up to now so you can take advantage of the opportunity to get this phone. It’s called a buy up. They charge (bill) you less the closer you get to your upgrade. I’ve been with Sprint 10 years and they didn’t charge me anything for moving my upgrades up that were two months away. Don’t fret if you aren’t eligible. If you just bought a Wimax phone a month ago then you’re screwed. Lol…hope this helps someone(I work for Sprint).
