Have you taken advantage of PandaWill's Dell Streak 5 sale? If you have, you'll be glad to know that the device you just spent $274.99 on might soon be getting a kernel upgrade. Today, the 'Streak' folder on Dell's open source website was updated. The 4.05_and_4.07 folder is new, and one of our awesome tipsters, Giveen, believes it's for a kernel upgrade.
Even though Dell isn't officially selling the Streak 5 anymore, it's still nice to know that it's still a supported device. I doubt it will get Ice Cream Sandwich, but just a little support is comforting for a device that you spent money on, no matter the amount.
We'll be sure to let you know when this rolls out to devices.
[OpenSource.Dell.com] Thanks, Giveen!

can this mean that the current official 2.3.4 version can be upgraded to 2.3.5 or up?
407 is the current rom, this is just us requesting the sources for it as it’s newer then 405.
_n0p_ requested dell to release the sources after I nudged him about it (though I cant exactly take credit for having it released, I assume he’s already had this idea/bugged dell before).
The original suggestion was via PM so I cant link to it directly, but it was basically that.
Dell more or less finished developing for all 2nd gen dell mobiles immediately around christmas last year. This isnt anything new, merely stuff they didnt release previously.
Thanks, TheManii, for clearing that up. I wasn’t sure what kernel the S5 was on, just noticed it was new and changed.
I am on 407 @ 2.3.3, Kernal 2.6.35.7-perf ,is there something I missed?
I’ve said it before. But if Dell had a shred of decency as a company they would release Ice Cream Sandwich Drivers.
Wow great news let’s hope we will get ICS soon
You wont.
Wow Dr. Kill Joy Alert!!! We’re you told “No” your whole life??? Poor child : /
Wake up, dude….
Another neglected child : /
Your not very bright are you esco757. As I have talked with Dell they said no. DJ_Steve will probably eventually put out an unofficial ICS rom, and I will probably work with him on it. But I think I know a bit more about this than you.
Props to you knowing something :/…….& props to everyone that called Dell b4 you….
Warning!
The much praised ICS is littered with bugs that will mess your phone up.
It does not surprise me that sony nixed it for now.
