G&E has just received exclusive information that some channels may get the HTC EVO 4G LTE as early as May 13, while some national third part retailers like Best Buy or Wirefly have already been shipped the device. This is according to an internal Sprint document, which we can't show you in order to protect our tipster.
More specifically, the document indicates that retail stores and Sprint dealers should start receiving shipments on May 13, and "direct ship" customers – those who preordered on Sprint's site – will receive the device by May 18.
If this turns out to be true, this would explain why some third party retailers like Best Buy are estimating delivery dates as early as this week. It's unclear from the information we've got whether or not they're actually authorized to do this, or whether this is an error that Sprint will soon force them to correct. In any case, we'll keep our eye on this and let you know if anything changes. But in the meantime, it seems ever more likely that devices will indeed start appearing on doorsteps much sooner than originally thought.
Update: And the plot thickens: our tipster is now saying that a contact in Best Buy's corporate office claims the device won't ship until May 18, regardless of the dates given in the order. At this point, I'd say it's best to take everything with a grain of salt, especially since Best Buy has yet to clarify anything.
Thanks, anonymous!

YAY!
I think I just peed a little.
I first need to know when Honolulu is going to get LTE???
so, what happens if you don’t pre-order? it seems like they want the pre-orders first.
Well, my status on the Sprint order status page went from having a shiny new phone shipping on 5/15 to back order. Considering I had the phone ordered before the 8am CST/9 am EST time, I hope that doesn’t mean I won’t get on by the release date.
I’m walking into the store with my cash and they will get it when they can hand me a working phone. Always worked in the past
So does this mean If I pre ordered from Best Buy today I may get it before the 18th? That they may get it shipped to them on the 13th? They told me today they get there phones on shipments in on Thursdays and Mon and sell them the next day. So I’m thinking the earliest for me would be the 15th on Tuesday. But then I called Best Buy and he said there not allowed to sell any earlier than the official street date. I just want this phone soon cause I’m selling my 3D on the 11th this Friday. Now I kind of wish I had ordered from Sprint cause the warehouse is here in Louisville where I live and I know I would get it sooner but my upgrade isn’t till June 1st and they told me May 18th is the soonest I can upgrade so I guess I may have to wait till the 18th even if it comes in on the 15th.
I just pre-ordered from Best Buy via online. I ordered with expidited shipping. It says I can expect the device 5/09 – 5/10. This is sweet.
No point paying 10 dollars extra per month for a feature you cant even use if you already have working 4G in your area…especially when 3g isn’t that great to begin with..guess i’ll wait for the journal
more than likely, this does not take into account that you are preordering something. if you were buying something in stock and available (like an iphone4s etc) then you would receiving 5/09-10. Id realistically expect a delivery on the 17th or 18th.
The $10 is a fee for all smart phones. It is not a 4G fee. If you buy any smartphone you will be paying the extra $10
Pre ordered from Best Buy this morning and the associate told me they were expecting them in on the 13th or 14th and would call me the second they arrived.
I just need to know if I can get it before the 18th or not…. I have slowly been going crazy since the 1st time I heard this phone was even in the works.
Same here!
I’m just pissed there’s no FM receiver in this phone!! Is a downgrade in that retrospect… :-/
Who even listens to terrestrial radio?!? Especially, what you have access to Pandora, Slacker, Last.FM, live365, and sirius XM. I supposed if you really wanted to listen to terrestrial radio you could always use Tunein Radio.
Why do you think HTC wont include FM radio? Do you have a source link?
just had a nice chat with a rep from Sprint ……..
Customer: if I preorder the Evo 1 will I be able to make calls with it when it does come .. I dont think my area has LTE yet ???
Derrick P.: I will check and assist you with.
Derrick P.: Yes, once you receive the phone , you will be able to use your phone service.
Derrick P.: Please do not worry about it.
Customer: so LTE is available in Boston and surrounding area ?
Derrick P.: One moment.
Derrick P.: Atlanta GA, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio TX are expected to be among the first to benefit from 4G LTE and improved 3G coverage in the first half of 2012. And for other areas it will be available very soon.
Customer: yes I know this however i was told that the Evo 1 would be shipped by the 16 of this month …. so if I get mine the 17 will I be able to use it
Derrick P.: Once you receive the phone, you will be able to use it
Customer: then the answer is yes
Customer: boston will be up & running
Customer: thank you
Derrick P.: Yes
Derrick P.: You’re welcome
Derrick P.: Please let me know if I assist you further?
Derrick P.:
Customer: that will do
Customer: have a good night
Ordered mine with Sprint, last one (EVO 4G) with Best Buy..
I think it has an FM radio. I’ve seen shots of the App Drawer that show the FM Radio app. Do a Google image search and you can see the same thing.
Did anybody get there’s from WireFly? I’m thinking about pre ordering mine from them. How is there customer service?
That almost reads like two outsourced customer service agents trying to have a conversation.
You will be able to use your phone the moment you get it regardless of whether LTE is up and running or not.
Just as an FYI, since I haven’t seen it mentioned on here yet; Target is doing pre-orders too, and they have it for $150.
If you dont pre order you get it cheaper, more colors, better network and more accessories available.
So I get discounted service thanks to Sprint’s partnership with the university, but the trade off is I have to wait about two weeks until I can actually order the phone at a discount. = I guess it’s a good thing to wait for all the first batch hiccups to be spotted and fixed.
Sprint rep told me I might be able to get it Monday 13th
Fear not, FM radio is there, see page 127: https://insidesprintnow.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/20120418_htc_evo_4g_lte_user_guide.pdf
LOL! I thought the same thing — get two people, neither of which know what they are talking about, and this is the result.
Would it be possible to order this phone and open getting it before i even activate it rooting and forcing roam on my EVO 3d then i could have both phones and bring them over to cricket??? If any one could help me with please any help would be nice!
The premise the whole time has been call dibs on 5/7 and get it before everyone else. Say I pre-order it today, and recieve it on the 13th…. which seems odd that it would arrive at my house on a sunday…. but, it would be 5 days earlier than the national release (the everyone else) on the 18th. It’s plausable. But so is pre-orders being recieved on the 18th and a traditional Sunday release on the 20th.
It’s the “offer ends 5/17″ in the preorder fine print that makes me vouch for the 18th and / or 20th timeframe.
I just pre-ordered mine over the phone with a Sprint sales rep, and while she was reading the verbatim, she stated that the phone would be shipped to me “on or before Friday, May 11″. I asked her if she could confirm the date, and she said that it’s what she had on the computer. Soooo….fingers crossed! It seems like everyone is getting different answers for the release date though.
Seems Wirefly has them in stock! They posted a demo on YouTube. First one I’ve seen since the NYC launch vids.
I also was told on or by May 10th or 11th by the sprint rep over the phone. We will see!
The status changed on Sprint.com/myorder from “backordered” to the below:
Thanks for pre-ordering a shiny new HTC EVO 4G LTE, an email will be sent the second it ships. The launch date for this handset will be announced in the next few days, thank you for your patience. Delivery should occur within 1 to 3 business days thereafter. You may continue to track the status of your order on this web page. If you have questions, check out sprint.com/preorder for more info.
I don’t use it to often but I like capabilities you know.. I generally use it to listen to the TV at the gym when I do long boring cardio sessions.
Good, I seen a comparison chart the other day that said no.. http://geekaphone.com/compare/HTC-EVO-4G-LTE-vs-HTC-EVO-3D
Happy to say it looks like I was wrong!!
Welcome to 2010. Sprint charges $10 to all smartphones now, to pay for increased data usage and to help them finance their network upgrades along the way. It’s not a 4G tax, this is the same argument people made with the original Evo 4g, and it was made quite clear.
Preordered with Wirefly. It says on the order confirmation that the ship date is May 18th. The rep said it will ship in 2-3 business days from today 5/8. i asked her several times “But this is a preorder?” She said “Yes sir AND it iwll ship in the next 2-3 days!!”. ooookkk?!?!?
Pre order mine today at a sprint store and they said on the 15th. I can’t get it till the 18th. Its three days early so ill have to wait for my upgrade on the 18th. Ten more days. Tick tock tick tock.. good thing I’m not a doctor BC I have no patients! Hah can’t wait.
Ooh, I see what you did there! Lol! Man I can’t wait either! It now says on the EVO pre-order page under shipping: “we’ll try our best to get it tou before Friday, May 18″. So excited!
All I know is: Sprint pre-orders better be in before anyone else’s. That’s what they promised, after all.
I believe their pre-order page said “they’ll try to try get in your hands before everyone else”
Anymore news on this topic? I pre-ordered from Wirefly. I’d love to get mine sometime next week!
Uhhh John- You have no idea what you are talking about. People- ignore John!
