Sprint has finally officially confirmed what we already knew: the official launch date for the HTC EVO 4G LTE is Friday, May 18. According to Sprint, if you order it online today, "we'll do our best to get it to you before others get a glimpse…"
However, one person who did complete the preorder through Sprint got the following message, which makes it seem like he'll get the phone after May 18:
Thanks for pre-ordering a shiny new HTC EVO 4G LTE, an email will be sent the second it ships. Delivery will begin within 1 to 3 business days starting May 18th. Thank you for your patience. You may continue to track the status of your order on this web page. If you have questions, check out sprint.com/preorder for more info.
Personally, my Best Buy preorder went from shipping as early as this Friday, to "backordered." I was also presumably one of the first to preorder through Best Buy, as I completed the order almost immediately after the preorder page went live.
So, it seems some people might get it early, some people might not, but most of us just don't know for sure. I guess this means that we'll just get it when we get it.
[Sprint] Thanks to Kevin, Anonymous, Chris, Nick, Eric, and everyone who left comments letting us know!

i also pre ordered with best buy and don’t know what to believe about when it’s going to be shipped anymore either :/ lol they first told me that they could ship it before the 18th if they got it in but when i talked to a best buy rep on the phone she told me that they wouldn’t be shipped until after it’s released.
When I pre-ordered through Sprint on Monday, the “Order Status” Page said shipments would start May 15th and expected delivery was within 1 to 3 business days, but now it does say “Delivery is expected to complete within 1 to 3 business days starting May 18th.” So I’m kind of sad that they would tell me one thing and then change it to something totally different.
Oh well, at least I’m still getting it though. [:
My order status now says that I am one step closer to receiving my phone and to watch out for the shipping e-mail. It says that shipping will start on 5/18 and will be complete in 1 to 3 business days. I hope that this isn’t correct because I don’t think it will be a good idea to make people who pre-order wait until after the launch to get the phone, especially when the pre-order page says you will get it before. I guess I just have to keep my fingers crossed and wait and see.
i got the same status from sprint too, i hate that they make you think you might get it early only to get it later than the 18th. Thanks Sprint you guys suck !
I just went into a sprint store, got really cheap accesories, and they’re going to bump my preorder from june 1st to may 18th. Thought those who are trying to get it on day 1 may be interested to know. He did say however it depends on how many they get, but if need be they’d over night me one, so it’d only be a day or two late. hope thish elps somebody!
They probably will ship on the 17Th on fedex that will be the 1-3 day window.Won’t die if not in my hands on the 18TH lol.
My status changed in the last few minutes. Here is the new status.
Status: Thanks for pre-ordering. You are one step closer to getting your phone. Keep an eye out for a shipping email with your tracking information. We will do our best to get it to you before others get a glimpse on Friday, May 18. For questions, visit sprint.com/preorder.
Just a thought. I would think it would be smart if Sprint released these phones a few days earlier than the official release date to create ‘buzz’. Stores would not have them till the 18th, but the preordered people would be posting how awesome their EVO is to the whole world. Make it happen Sprint/HTC
I wish that I was able to get decent service where I live because the new one series is amazing. I’m using a Gnex on Verizon now with my 3d being used by my dad but if they do keep with their promises and roll out the 4g network that’s promised I’ll consider the switch back. Right now I’m able to use my phone at my job, home and 2 different college campuses that I attend while neither my og evo or 3d could. Good luck to all of those grabbing the new evo it looks to be an amazing device!
I pre-ordered thru Wirefly Friends & Family for $119 (Google it), so I passed on the expedited shipping and went for free shipping.
They’re still gonna use Fedex, but Fedex doesn’t deliver on Saturdays so it seemed pointless to pay extra on the off chance that they ship Thursday or Wednesday and Fedex manages to get it to me by Friday.
I only ordered it today so I was probably at the back of the line anyway, and shipping to Puerto Rico is always hit or miss. I can wait the weekend for it, specially for $119 w/no tax charged.
Last year I ordered my EVO 3D thru Wirefly and Sprint never charged me activation, hoping I get lucky again (‘specially since Wirefly is currently advertising free activation).
This sucks I too had the same email from sprint saying that it would be ship 1to 3 days after the 18 and when I spoke to the rep when I was making my order she said tha I would have it in 2 to 5 days this was Tuesday so she said I would have it by Friday and thats bull crap now I’m pissssss
Do you know if any current line discounts get properly retained by going through Wirefly? I have a line discount but have been eligible for upgrade for a while now, don’t want to lose my monthly discount.
Wirefly’s site says they’re retained and that was my experience last year, still rocking my 23% student discount.
I just spoke with a rep at Best Buy and if you happened to sign up for the Phone Freedom promo that was run a few months ago, you can get the $50 from that promo and the $50 from the presale promo to bring the price down to $100. She that in order to claim both promotions you had to do it in store though, because the presale $50 came from the store and the $50 Phone Freedom came from corp. and it was generated by phone number.
It’s so much fun to watch the banter here. I pre ordered too and know I’ll get one. When? On the 18th at Best Buy.
What is this Phone Freedom promo?
Check out the unboxing video from phonedog. http://www.phonedog.com/videos/htc-evo-4g-lte-unboxing/
Yes, I pre-ordered in store at Best Buy. I had to pay $50 to pre-order, but I’m going to get $50 for the Phone Freedom, $50 from the pre-sale promo, then I’m trading in my original Evo 4G for $50. Therefore, it’s only going to cost me $50 total for the phone, which I already paid for when I pre-ordered.
