MeanROM, which we covered five releases ago, became the first, or one of the first HTC EVO 4G LTE ROMs to be released with the new 1.22.651.3 OTA base. Along with the phone responding significantly faster and snappier for some just due to the new radio, MeanROM includes a host of software updates and patches from the new HTC base and a new overclocking module that allows you to clock from 1.5-1.9ghz using the stock kernel.
The new base fixes a few issues with WiFi, time zones, and 3G connectivity for many. The new MeanROM also adds multitasking tweaks, a Facebook photo fix, a super-extended quick settings, and a host of misc tweaks and updates that make an already amazing ROM into an even better ROM.
The ROM developer suggests doing a complete wipe before you do an update to version 1.4, but I was able to update from 0.9 to 1.4 without doing that and suffering any apparent harm. Your mileage may vary.
As with any EVO 4G LTE ROM, make sure to clear your Google Wallet settings if you had Wallet set up, and make a nandroid backup before flashing the upgraded MeanROM.
You will need the new OTA base in order to reap the benefits as MeanROM does not include the radio bits, so if you’re on the previous base, grab a flashable version without the new HBOOT and flash, and then let us know how the new MeanROM works for you.

Sweet!
Lol so..
Flash the- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612
Then wipe and flash the version of the rom?
Thanks
From 0.9 I
1) flashed radios
2) cleared wallet
3) flashed 1.4 with no wipe
4) profit
You’re S-Off, correct? Any reason for not flashing the full 1.22 firmware with PRI, etc. (without hboot/recovery)?
I am s-off, I flashed everything except hboot just in case there was something odd with it…
I don’t think there’s any reason not to though
Gotcha. In the comment above you said you flashed “radios”, which confused me.
Well then time to give it a go!
Just downloaded both files.
Thanks for the update on this ROM!
- Weren’t kidding about how fast this developer is on top of stuff
I have MeanRom version 1.4. Do I still need to flash the new radios or not. I don’t want to flash the radio if version 1.4 already has them.
You need to flash them separately. If you’re S-OFF, flash the full firmware minus hboot from bootloader, otherwise flash just the radio from recovery.
Where can I find just the radio, because on Mike’s site the link has me downloading somethin else. Does anybody have a download link just for the radio that I can flash in recovery?
Follow the sourcelink and read the HTCDev S-ON instructions at the bottom of the first post. There’s a link there to a radio only update flashable through recovery.
When it takes you to that site, top right “skip ad” – he’s trying to pay for bandwidth I think… skip ad takes you to the right download.
Will flashing the firmware minus the hboot in the bootloader change my data profile will it? Cause between switching from the stock rooted Rom with the latest update to MeanRom, reset my data profile, and I had no data signal at all. I couldn’t even data roam. How does that happen?
where do i get google voice??? im on mean rom 1.4
open the market. type “google voice.” download and install
Worked like a champ! Thanks Paul
Any suggestions?
Keep getting the “system updated available” notification.
Obviously I don’t want to do that. Know how I might permanently delete this until next “official update”?
Thanks
Clear Updater’s cache/data in Setup/Apps/All.
Then uncheck Scheduled check in Setup/System updates/HTC Software if you have it checked.

Hey Paul,
Are all these new roms gonna play nice with LTE? Back when i was a flashaholic on the og evo half of them didnt have functioning 4g…
ROMs based on Sense 4.0 such as MeanROM shouldn’t have any issues with LTE, various AOSP ROMs obviously will.
Sense ROMs almost always had working 4G, AOSP ROMs were lacking drivers. Some ports were lacking drivers.
Right now any Sense 4 ROM should be able to work if 4g lte comes to town.
I have a noob question. I just rooted and gained s-off on my lte. How does one exclude things like the hboot when flashing? Also, when I had my 3D, I kept reading that the firmware from the virgin mobile leak should be excluded when flashing. How does one exclude things when flashing?
the only way to flash an HBOOT is to download a radio package with hboot. Nobody ships then with a ROM… so if you”re downloading a radio package o update, just grab one with only what you want in it.
And the VM firmware thing was a bunch of people flashing a set of radios they shouldn’t have… in both cases it was people just flashing first and thinking later.
I don’t really understand how to flash the radio , & pri separate i am s-off ??
better yet i dont understand anything … how do i flash what is required minus the hboot? i flashed just the radio and lost my 4g ..so i figure i need something else?? i am s-off , i flashed the radio through recovery . What i am I doing wrong ?? how do i get 4g back
This Rom is okay but i flashed back to PKMN Charmeleon Rom because i really like those PkMn Tweaks in the quick settings. Just did the entire process and all is well, after i already took the OTA update. Im happy, You guys all rock!! Thanks.
I need to try that ROM. It’s been on my radar for a while now, just have not gotten to it.

That I do not know. I flashed minus the bootloader, booted the phone, updated pri, profile, and ran with it. Never had an issue.
I just did that now. It works now. I spoke to Google wallet and they told me that they never of factory reset causing damage to the secure element of the phone and that It’s separated from the phone so that if there was a factory reset, it wouldn’t damage anything. Have you ever heard of that?
I can show you 8 ROM developers mentioning it. There even used to be a stickie on XDA about it.
Something may have changed, but it was rather big news all of 2 weeks ago.
Yeah I saw that, but what Google wallet said about it not doing any damage to the secure element be true? I’m not sure. When I went to pay for something this morning the phone made a beep sound and vibrated to signal I was paying something, it it detected a radar but was not successful, tell cashier to to hit accept on their screen or tap phone again. I don’t know if she made a mistake when I told her I was paying credit or if the secure element is damage. If the secure element is damaged, will the Google wallet app show an error code or message?
@carl – if the secure element is damaged you get a very obnoxious message saying that the Secure Element is Not Responding… big ol’ popup.
What you had happen is more just a random failure… same as what happened to me when I first tried it… somehow wallet senses that you’ve got people behind you in line and will not pay up at those moments.
Also, the not doing damage to the secure element could indeed be true. The people who borked their secure elements were generally probably people who rooted their phones.
It’s my understanding that the way things are initiated the data that’s sent to the secure element will be based off of the device ID somehow, and that can change from ROM to ROM.
That could have been the borkage issue
Lol, that’s true it always happens when there’s a line behind you. I got it working again using titanium backup. Sorry for going off topic in this thread.
