Windows 8 is a brand new platform. And like any new platform, it needs to have a good launch lineup of games. Today, Microsoft unveiled Windows 8′s strong initial offering of 40 Xbox LIVE-enabled games from some of the most popular mobile developers in the industry such as Gameloft, Glu Mobile, Halfbrick Studios, Microsoft Studios, Miniclip, Rovio, and ZeptoLab. The list of launch titles is packed with favorites from the Xbox stable and other platforms, including Angry Birds and Angry Birds Space, Fruit Ninja, Gunstringer: Dead Man Running, IloMilo, Kinectimals Unleashed, PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX, and more.
Many of the 40 games in “wave one” will be available on launch day – October 26 – with the rest going live in the weeks to follow. A few, however, are already available for download if you have a copy of Windows 8 RTM. These games are playable on PCs, laptops, and tablets and they feature Xbox LIVE staples like achievements, leaderboards, and multiplayer.

Overall, this seems to be a great launch lineup. Microsoft has managed to gather a wide variety of games from some of the most popular IPs. A few titles, like Halo and Gears of War, aren’t represented, but it seems somewhat unreasonable to expect those types of game in a more casual environment. Microsoft hasn’t announced the launch schedule or pricing for these games, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see weekly releases as on Xbox and Windows Phone.

Will these work with RT? I see that there are some available for the RTM so we know they will work on Intel/AMD, but what about ARM? Thanks.
Microsoft hasn’t explicitly stated whether or not the games will support Windows RT, but I expect that most of them will. I can’t see Microsoft leaving out that audience at such a critical time.
Fruit ninja is my favorite
….And here I thought I was going to be able to continue my tradition of skipping every other version of windows(metro tiles still bug me) but this seems to be opening the door for some awesomeness down the road.
BIG FAN OF KINECTAMALS!!!!
……waiting for Kinectamals Unleashed. Other than that Microsoft is trying hard to get Windows 8 in everyones house and there doing great!
Agreed my wife is a big apple fan, I’m sort of on the fence but the more I hear about windows 8, the more excited I get
fan*
Just waiting for Microsoft to release the Surface. Seems like a solid piece of hardware.
playing touch sensitive games like fruit ninja and angry birds will be pretty sweet on the Surface tablet. makes me want to get a touch screen desktop just to play them, although I’ve tried the release preview of Windows 8 and even with a mouse it is really easy to play those games to my surprise.
Seems like a pretty good selection of games
