CIUI Gamma V3 for the HTC EVO 4G is a fully-functioning MIUI-themed CyanogenMod-based ROM where everything just works – and it works fast. (We first covered CIUI nine months ago, when it first hit the scene.)
While the OS it is based on is not exactly cutting edge any more, the ROM itself is a solid, fully-functioning piece of work that seems to have prided itself on not working with 4G/WiMAX.
While I’m not particularly a fan of any flavors of MIUI, I’ve got to say that in the time I’ve played with CIUI, I’ve been a fan. It’s snappy and feels responsive.
On install, I managed to bork it, most likely due to me not having an internet connection and having a phone that is out of service, but a reboot fixed it.
I’m a bit confused about what team claims this ROM now – Team D.I.R.T. has banners in the XDA development thread, the download links go to a Team XTC account, and Team Nocturnal’s CIUI thread also lists it as XTC. Whatever the team, SinisterTensai was the author.
It seems we rarely cover ROMs these days that make it past betas, as work gets abandoned to chase after a new operating system base. It’s nice to see that this reached gamma. The only sad thing about this is no ability to install Chrome, as the base OS is a tad too dated, which for me ends up being as bad as not having 4G.

Wish I still owned my OG EVO. I would flash this in a heartbeat. Still a little sketchy about flashing the LTE just because it is flawless.
Try setting an individual ringtone for a person with the latest OTA and tell us if it’s flawless when they call you
Yeah SinisterTensai is NOW part of Team D.I.R.T but was part of Team XTC before that and before that was part of Team Nocturnal before that I believe.
BUT like you said, this ROM is snappy and I’m not a big fan of MIUI myself either as you can tell by my past ROMs but I’ve used CIUI for a while now and is kind of grown on me
Great article Paul!!!
I need my new battery so that I can try this out on my OG Evo.
wish i still had my og evo too but running stock with goodies v2.03 on the evo lte and its great. you should give that rom a try
I know that I can click on links to probably find out, but there’s no mention as to the base Android version – just talk about how it’s outdated, so I’m assuming GB?
Yup, CM7.2/Gingerbread… seriously thought I had put that in… but I didn’t… will edit that in a bit
If it’s cm 7.2 gb?4g wimax works?
Does wimax work?
yeah, everything works. OK, I can’t actually *test* it because I don’t have service on that phone, but it’s a completely working ROM… gamma release…something we rarely see.
Thanks Paul ill try flashing this rom
Nice review! The roms officially out of beta/gamma now. Also, I can confirm everything is working. if you have any more question’s http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809338 just try it out.
No 4G and no Chrome, means I am out the window ever since the get go.
Basic features such as Chrome can never be overlooked in my opinion.
4G works, Chrome never worked on Gingerbread OSes
uhhhh? gingerbread rom, not ics 4g does work. you must be new to the root world.
I don’t exactly use either of those, I just love the new Launcher and features in ICS/Jelly Bean!
I like the toggle screen feature. It makes everything supereasy to turn on and off.
now available for epic4g and epic4g touch
also got the MIUI V4 lockscreen into the system framework. http://i47.tinypic.com/6ypct0.png will be on 2.0 CIUI flashable mod for now.
