Sprint is continuing its roll out of 4G LTE by announcing availability in four major markets compromising fifteen different towns, including a handful of cities in the greater Chicagoland area. Here’s the complete list:
- Addison, IL
- Bolingbrook, IL
- Des Plaines, IL
- Downers Grove, IL
- Gary, IN
- Hutchinson, KS
- Joliet, IL
- Kankakee, IL
- McPherson, KS
- Naperville, IL
- New Bedford/Fall River, MA
- Palatine, IL
- Plainfield, IL
- Rockford, IL
- Wichita Falls, TX
Sprint also mentioned that it is working on network improvements in Lake County, Illinois. Central Illinois, where I’m currently residing, still hasn’t gotten a lot of love from Sprint (in fact, I currently have a network ticket open), but I’m still hopeful about Sprint’s ultimate goal to largely have the LTE roll out finished by the end of 2013.
If you’re in any of these areas, be sure to do a few speed tests, and let us know how LTE is treating you.

Rhode Island please!!!!!!!! wtf!!!! im 30 min away from fall river/new bedford Mass
I’ve noticed some spotty LTE in the LA area (both near Beverly Hills and in the SFV).
Any word on when it might go live officially?
I am in the same boat John. I live in the Champaign/Urbana area and we DEF need one. The population here is HUGE especially with UofI and Parkland…It’s about 130,000 population.
You’d think that Springfield – the CAPITAL – would get some LTE soon, but I haven’t seen Central Illinois mentioned ANYWHERE on official lists and unofficial leaks. *sigh*
Why is it only cities the same states?
Still? It has been almost a year nv has started.
I really don’t see how sprint will complete
nv cross country in one year from now
Josh, I’ve noticed LTE in the San Fernando Valley as well, in North Hollywood by the Sherman Way and Coldwater intersection. I wonder if there is a map of antenna locations available, like there was for WiMax antennas.
I haven’t seen such a map, but I’m eager to know if one exists.
My personal opinion – I think when carriers launch next gen networks, they should be released in large metro areas first, then small towns. Anyone else agree?
1000000000% Major markets is where the money is at!!!
Also in Central Illinois. It seems to be getting close (Peru area announced), but it needs to start really moving south from Chicago asap!
Still no love for Ohio? (Cleveland/Akron area) Cmon Sprint !
yeah…everytime i see one of the least they are no where near Cleveland. why did i re-up Sprint???
By the time it’s in San Diego, I think I’ll be able to upgrade. My ETA for San Diego (Just throwing it out there): June 2013
I would be really, really, really, really, nice if Sprint rolled out 4G LTE service in central Illinois. Especially since we don’t 4G service at all at this point!
Wherever they put LTE in Boston, it’s nowhere near the footprint WiMax had/has here. What did they turn up 4 towers and call it “live”? I’ve been all over the area and still have not had my LTE icon light up. So the moral of the story is don’t get too excited if Sprint lists your city as getting LTE next.
As a followup to myself, apparently 4G LTE in “Boston” means 30-40 miles outside of the city and along the cape, nowhere near any population densities. If you’re looking for LTE inside the 93/95 belt, there is none. Plenty of WiMax though, so do yourself a favor and buy an older phone, no sense in buying their flagship models.
Why Sprint chose to place LTE resources in distant suburbs is anyone’s best guess. Maybe that’s where some execs live or vacation?
I definitely don’t see it often (and occasionally get slow speeds even when I do), but I’ve had spotty LTE coverage around Cambridge/Somerville for the past month or so.
Could be they are testing out certain towers in the area. Officially they have nothing listed on their coverage maps so if you’re picking something up, it’s probably not live. I’ve recently been through Cambridge/Somerville and have nothing listed in the LTE record on my phone.
Ours went live last week. Section of Interstate 81 from Falling waters, WV to Innwood, WV. Woot!
Inwood with 1 n
I guess for us Ohioans we should just start hoping that Sprints possible accusition of Clearwire allows for more WiMAX expantion and then we can just move back to the OG EVO or the 3D. Probably the only way we will get 4G anytime soon. :’(
I’m with you on that one man…. i keep holding on my my OG evo and refuse to upgrade until Sprint shows me some love by launching LTE in Cincy.
/checks map
/doesn’t see Detroit area
/continues previous plan to exit from Sprint to AT&T
They still have 1.5 yrs, because of my contract, but I’m feeling the same. Probably AT&T, but SOMEONE that actually PROVIDES 4G, and doesn’t just claim it. I can’t believe how much Sprint ignores the Detroit metro area.
My contract was up in June, so all I’m waiting for is Amazon’s penny sale and to see if anything better than the Galaxy S3 is available.
I have 4G in Houston and love it. It was crap a few months ago but they have continued to expand coverage and I couldnt be happier.
ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) SPRINT Y U NO LIKE OHIO?
I no like ohio, but at least give us 4g LTE. Mostly in Dayton where you blacklisted us.
I live in Dallas and I have seen 4G mainly while driving. I walk into a building and it reverts back to 3G. I read that it has to do with the frequency that Sprint LTE is based on is too high to penetrate most buildings. So far LTE has been pretty pointless since I am inside most of the time.
Norfolk- Virginia Beach: My twin brother, a codes enforcement specialist in Virginia Beach has been observing and talking to Sprint LTE subcontractors at several towers. He did observed them uploading firmware and was told it should be too long before they light up our area.
PHX AZ. pleezz
Word on the street is that it’s coming at the end of 2013
If that’s the case, I will seriously consider selling my evo on ebay and dropping sprint for good, regardless of what penalties I have to pay. How on earth can they continue to completely ignore a market this big? What business sense does that make???
I live in New bedford and still only have 3g, when is it supposed to go live?
Have any of the sprint insiders mentioned anything about the LTE connectivity issues (cycling airplane mode), and when/how they will be addressed?
hurry up spring. Use that new money you have.
*sprint
Still don’t know what is taking so long for them to do Hawaii. We are a very small island chain so it wouldn’t take much. Frankly the clock is ticking as I’m planning on going with a Note 2 for my next big phone upgrade and I’m eyeing T-Mobile seductively for their unlimited data on HSPA+.
What about oklahoma!!!!!!!
I’m in one of the second markets (Indianapolis) they announced LTE was coming to in the coming months and still nothing yet. There are a few testing towers here and there but nothing official yet.
Still loving it in KC.
I love sprint , however it’s annoying to keep rolling out phones with 4g lte and not having the network fully operational…. Sprint you suck, start listening to your customer base before you lose us to Verizon and At&t, or better yet Virgin Mobile
Verizon will be rolling out 5g by the time I get 4g from Sprint in Fargo.
I got 4G in Lowell Massachusetts
Same Thing here n sc … Not even WiMAX.
Still Waiting for NYC to Long Island (Suffolk County)!!!!
Great coverage from Aurora to Chicago. Constant between 8 Meg upload & download. Best was 23 upload and 15 download.
I live in Wichita Falls and today the coverage has been real spotty. Couple of weeks I have been getting 4g at Shepard AFB but in town mostly 3G.
Keep it rolling Sprint
Creeping ever so closer to Minnesota!
Some of the south suburbs of Chicago also seem to have 4G up and running. I’m seeing 4G pop in and out,
I also live in lake county, Lake Forest actually, and have zero LTE, neighboring communities have it. Sprint needs to get it here considering WiMax was never sufficient here.
Ever get 4G LTE?
While cruizin’ through Libertyville (Lake Co.) IL on my home from work, I got a mere 29 MB down

Hell I just want my phone service back up and running. Ever since they started this ‘network upgrade’ my device has been in the toilet. And sprint keeps telling me that the ‘estimated’ completion date is different every time I call. Come on Sprint pick up the pace.
Saw it in Hagerstown, MD this weekend, getting 25 down/4 up while sitting in Longhorn. Awesome. Hope Frederick is next!!
Can’t wait for Sprint to roll out in Cincinnati/Dayton, OH area
If sprint doesn’t give the Metro Detroit area LTE i will be leaving their services. We didn’t get it with OG EVO and it seems like its going to be the same thing for LTE EVO.
Hearing people from the L. A. area get it gives me hope. I live in the Antelope Valley, about 65 miles outside of the city. We never got Wimax up here, but I was told by my Sprint rep that we actually have towers here in the Antelope Valley. Hope they turn em on soon, 3g sucks MAJOR CAMEL ASS right now.
What’s up with Austin tx
I have been paying for 4g wimax/LTE for over 2 yrs with the og EVO and EVO LTE in Richmond, VA. Love(d) both of my phones, but if Sprint cant get me my speeds that I’m paying for by the end of 2013, then I might as well pay Verizon prices. hint, hint Sprint.
We never got wimax in our area and by the time 4g LTE rolls out 5g will be out. Its kind of sickening. I am so over Sprint.
How long is it going to take them to turn on L.A.?
I love living in Kansas! its like every little tiny town here is getting 4g LTE… Its kinda funny really.
I bought the evo,evo 3d,evo lte and now the note 2 since 2009. and we still have 3g here in Fargo. ND isn’t even on the map or on any list in the near future. My family I have been a dedicated sprint users and are now thinking about switching to verizon because sprint has failed to compete in my book. we nver even got wimax 4g. pathetic!
Fargo wants LTE!!! We are still stuck on 3g! I have friends that are using there iPhone 5 with LTE (Verizon) and Im stuck with this slow 3g!
