Happy iPad mini release day, everyone! If you purchased an iPad mini, I hope you’re enjoying every minute of having it in your hands, safe from harm and away from hard concrete.
Some other people haven’t been so lucky – even though they dropped their brand-new iPad on purpose to show you what not to do. Android Authority is back with another drop test, this time comparing the iPad mini to the Nexus 7.
Obviously, both didn’t fare very well at all; however, the iPad mini did a surprisingly better job than the Nexus 7, as it stayed on and working through all three tests. Unfortunately, the makers of this video couldn’t say the same about the original Nexus tablet.
It should go without saying that you shouldn’t try this at home: not only could you damage your $329+ purchase, but you could also potentially harm yourself or others with the shattering of the screen that is bound to happen when its glass face hits a hard, bumpy surface.

Dumb Ass!
These test are stupid.. everything breaks when dropped.. DUH
Not the Surface.
My wife’s EVO has eaten more pavement than the combined collective knees of most skateboarders in the greater California area for the past 15 years.
I’ve seen it drop, slide, tumble down stairs, etc. As of yet other than cosmetic corner damage, it has not broken.
We also have a nook, it’s taken a dive a few times – I don’t think there’s a lot of nook drop testing, but it’s survived with no issues.
Most things survive… they’re made to… if your device broke at the first drop, you’d be loudly telling the world “hey, a 4 foot drop renders this thing useless” – that’s why consumer electronics generally are made pretty tough…
Now, when you’ve got an audience that will buy whatever you make, you don’t have to. Quality is not required when purchase is assured.
