Deal alert: Walmart offering iPhone 5, 4S, fourth-generation iPad discounts today [Update]

Like most people, I love learning about deals and other ways of saving money – and I love it even more when those deals and ways to save money are related to the best technology around. Walmart announced such a deal today: the retailer is now selling the iPhone 5 for $127; the 4S for $47; and the fourth-generation third-generation iPad for $399.

Those iPhone prices are for the base models of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S lines. Walmart’s website says that the price will apply to “all models” of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, though the page doesn’t show the prices for the devices; you will have to go to your local Walmart store to see exactly how much each model of the iPhone would cost you. Regardless of the price you find, it will naturally only apply if you sign a two-year contract with the carrier you choose.

The very good fourth-generation third-generation iPad deal knocks $100 off of the 16GB variant. The company doesn’t list any additional information on its website, but it does say that, starting December 17, the deal will also include a $30 iTunes store gift card.

Walmart has already started the deal. There is no timeframe for when it may end, but if you’re looking for one of Apple’s latest and greatest devices, head to your local Walmart as quickly as possible.

Update 12/15: A Walmart PR representative reached out to tell me that the retailer is not offering the fourth-generation iPad on any discount; instead, it is the third-generation iPad at the aforementioned prices. There was miscommunication between the rep and 9to5Mac, the publication that originally found out about the deal. Here’s the full quote:

We are offering the iPad 3 [sic] at the special deal, not the fourth-generation iPad – it’s the iPad 3 [sic] at the iPad 2 price. I apologize, there was some miscommunication this morning with 9to5 Mac [sic] and I’m working to correct my error.
