Sprint announced earlier this morning that it has launched 4G LTE in nine additional markets in seven different geographical regions. These are:
- Altoona, PA
- Asheville, NC
- Columbus, IN
- Elkhart/Goshen, IN
- Hammond, LA
- La Crosse, WI
- San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Statesville, NC
- Temple, TX
This official rollout follows previous announcements seveal months ago that Sprint was working on LTE in these areas, and that it would be available soon.
The biggest market in this list is San Juan, although Sprint has continued to work in other significant markets across the US, too, in addition to these smaller cities that Sprint is so fond of announcing. Reports have also come in from Pocketables readers that LTE is popping up in unannounced markets in California and Arizona, as well.
If you’re in one of these areas, do a speed test and tell us below how the new network is performing!
[Sprint] Thanks, Simon!

32.68 MB/S Down and 14.12 Up in Joplin MO
Anybody have any info on how far complete Los Angeles is?
Whats the farthest distance LTE can reach? Im excited about San Juan but dont think my home town will reach.
Welcome, guys. I love helping this site out.
I wish Sprint would add my market to its list of roll out guidance. It keeps nagging me that my next phone upgrade might come with the caveat of losing 4G (WiMAX) with no replacement (LTE).
Welcome to the party pal found myself in that boat here in Vegas! Made my EVO LTE almost useless in some areas in town with the weak 3G. Nice for Asheville, NC and San Juan but does nothing for me.
Yeah. I’m considering just moving onto an MVNO or a post-paid GSM carrier and getting the next Nexus phone.
I don’t think Sprint will ever see a Nexus again, and I’m not 100% liking where HTC is taking its products (don’t get me wrong, they’re nice, just not my cup of tea, for the most part). Going to wait it out and see if LTE gets on the “To do” list for my area, if not by the next Nexus phone release in the fall, I may be outta here, unless the SGS4 does something majorly awesome.
Was in Asheville last week and noticed 4G was on!

Ironically, on Sensorly, I see this tiny blip of Sprint LTE above and below and my state. The one above is fairly close to me.
I was kind of hoping to see that grow and spill over into my state. Haha.
http://www.sensorly.com you go there and you go to coverage map type in your address or zip and go to your server (ex. sprint 4g) and it will show you where 4g is or is not
Ha. I was just on there an hour ago.
Great website. Love the crowd-sourced coverage data.
really ? still nothing in s/e michigan ?
Yes!, no Hawaii again
spotty 4g in orlando…altamonte area…..PR has had 4g since thanksgiving…..i was on vaca there LOL lady lake,FL also has 4g…..
Puerto Rico, that’s amazing they can put LTE there and Las Vegas can’t get a break. Sprint was a major player here but so many have jumped ship due to Sprints lack of planning and execution. I don’t understand what they are thinking. Dan needs to step out of his office and listen to his customers or he won’t have any.
As of 3 days ago, one tower in Redmond Wa (Seattle) is transmitting 4G. Seattle hasn’t been mentioned once – but our 3g speeds have been getting worse by the day. This one operating 4g tower isn’t giving great speed (1-2M down) but does light up as 4g. I was using 4g when in puerto rico around halloween and it was pretty awesome around 9-10M.
Another bunch of cities I’ve never heard of.. Guess Columbus, Ohio will never get it. I’d be happy with 3G (instead of 1x most of the time)
That’s stinks, man. If I were on 1X the majority of the time, that would be unacceptable for me.
Especially when you factor in you’re paying the extra $10 for “Premium data” which is basically a 4G speed fee, and you aren’t even getting 3G. Ugh.
LTE is currently up in Redmond, WA near Microsoft campus. 10 mbps Down/6 Mbps Up according to sensorly.com http://bit.ly/YM5rON Tried and Tested
Hmm, on my way to work yesterday, I discovered I was receiving 4G. It has a very small radius (maybe a mile), but I was surprised to see it (Waterford, MI). Today, I was receiving it in West Bloomfield MI, and after mentioning it to my friend, he found signal in Troy, MI. All Detroit suburbs. It looks like they are quietly slipping things in, without an announcement.
Oh, and the speeds were only 2Mbps to 5Mbps, so it wasn’t very fast, when compared to other 4G. Maybe it’s just the first step though. Turn it on, THEN extend range and speed.
Take a look at this neat app. It will show you exactly where LTE is available in almost real-time. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sensorly.viewer&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zZW5zb3JseS52aWV3ZXIiXQ..
I love how Altoona, PA gets LTE before Pittsburgh. They are starting to piss me off.
I believe that there are really more markets than this. I live in Mankato, MN, and Sprint turned on LTE about 4 weeks back for the college campus, and then a second tower near the hill top area. Though they have a few more towers to switch over for this city, it is live in some parts of town, including where my home is located. As for speeds? I am seeing over 30 down, and over 10 up… I know that the early speeds won’t last, but it sure is nice to have for now. Hopefully, they will have our other towers switched over soon. Mankato is about 90 miles outside of Minneapolis, which is still not on the road map… I have wondered about this, and I am starting to think that Sprint is holding off on LTE for areas that already have WiMax. Else, it makes no sense that they would be activating Mankato and other smaller areas before the metro. Good for me, but no so good for the masses.
For about 5 mins this morning, my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 was showing 4G.
Then it went away
I was connected to 4G yesterday by my home in Saint Cloud, FL and I almost shed a tear. Had about 9-10mb/s download, and 2mb/s upload.
Puerto Rico, but still nothing in my part of NYC.
unbelievable.
