Testing out the Tinitell child GPS/Phone watch

The Tinitell is a watch/phone/GPS tracker aimed at keeping your kids safe, location known, and in touch without putting a breakable screen in front of them that will be used to watch YouTube Kids until the battery runs out.

I’ve been doing longer reviews lately (examples are the Paby, Nest, Sense,) and I expect this will be one of the longer ones before I get a chance to sit down and write up something on it as I’m having my kids test it, so if you have any questions in the meantime feel free to ask.

The US version of this ships with a prepaid Ting micro SIM installed (which you can change.) The wrist phone can hold 12 contacts and send and receive phone calls as well as transmit GPS coordinates home.  It’s currently $126 on the manufacturer’s website.

It appears it ships with 3 months of Ting service after which you pay $9 a month, or you can also go to T-Mobile but I don’t know how their plans might work if you have phone service with them.

Besides the main purpose that your kid has their own personal panic button or ability to call grandma, you could probably use this for someone with smallish wrists and dementia who might wander away. Maybe good for someone who just needs a phone on them all the time.

The child can select who to call by scrolling through up to 12 voice-labeled contacts (no screen, it says them out loud,) and supposedly learn how to tell time on a mechanical watch (I don’t see examples of this, and I haven’t had a chance to mess with it yet, just saying).

The Tinitell wristphone claims it’s durable. We’ll see when the playground test commences.

You use Bluetooth and an app to configure it, so there will be screens somewhere, but your kiddo doesn’t have to have access to anything.

I’ll be testing out call quality, gps accuracy and update speed, geofencing, alerts, anything else I can think of over the next few weeks.
