Sometime in 2016 Urban Armor Gear came on my radar (I was going to see them at CES, I don’t think that happened.)
I’ve checked and can’t figure out how I got on theirs or stayed on, especially for iPhone products, but some iPhone cases showed up at my house right about the same time two of my friends were saying they needed cases. Fortuitous timing.
While I hesitate to call this a review, my first friend (Chris,) has accidentally drop tested the black Monarch series UAG case we received and phone still intact, and the transparent version they sent I’ll be photographing and trying on an iPhone 7 next week.
Case fits perfectly on his iPhone 8, grip is great, seems a well built case. He hasn’t managed to destroy his phone yet which in itself is telling if you know Chris and the sheer number of phones this man has destroyed.
Case doesn’t get in the way of his connectors, although it does look like it potentially could for some devices.
It lists itself as having five layers of protection including an armor frame, leather or carbon fiber, a polycarbonate shear plate, alloy metal hardware, and impact resistant rubber. Looking at the thing I think you generally would only employ two of those at any given fall.
Having watched a lot of drop tests, think the rubber and frame are probably the winners in most situations.
I liked the case, wish they’d sent me a version for the Note 8 (I don’t think they make one though).
