Default iPod Touch without iTunes..?

Hi all,
I do a bit of singing in my spare time - big-band swing 'n jazz for the most part.

My wife has some useful singing-related apps on her iPod Touch, which I've bemoaned the lack of... well it looks like she's bought me one for Christmas, very nice of her - shhh, it's supposed to be a surprise!

But that means I again have to deal with the Devil's spawn that is iTunes... my Nano is in a draw somewhere because in the end it came down to:
-Become a mass-murdering lunatic
or
-Uninstall iTunes and forget about the iPod

As neither option is likely to go down well with my wife can anyone recommend an alternative solution? A little Googling didn't get me far...

Thank you!

I realise others won't share my point of view. For me Apple PMP's are worthless junk if I have to use iTunes, so no 'get used to it' suggestions please.
-I would be prepared to install iTunes just long enough to set the thing up, but alternate options would be good.
-Some kind of light-weight driver that would allow me to treat an iPod Touch as a USB drive would be ideal.

Winamp supports iPod Touch and iPhone, but I think you've got to jailbreak them first.

You can transfer your iPod to iTunes library for your nano.

If you want to transfer iTunes Store purchases from an iOS device or iPod to a computer, be sure to authorize the computer before connecting the device. To authorize, follow these steps:

1. Open iTunes.
2. From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
3. In the dialog that appears, the Apple ID button is selected by default.
4. Enter your Apple ID and password, then click the Authorize button.
