@AntonSK:
I know I'm a little late (only just joined the forum) but I wanted to thank you for this driver.
Excellent job, driver working very well for me, you saved my P.

I bought my 31ZK a few months ago (eBay) as the closeset thing to my ideal mini-laptop.
(which would be a modern Psion 5 if such a thing existed)

I had some reservations, almost all of them to do with the dreadful GMA500 driver support, but having done some digging I at least knew it's technically a decent mobile IGP and hoped support would be along eventually...
...I wasn't expecting the Earth, but as I like my emulators being able to run the likes of ePSXe or Project64 is what I regard as minimum acceptable performance - oh, and being able to watch videos of any reasonable size - surely even the rotten Intel drivers + GMA500 could manage that?
Imagine my 'horror' when I discovered the answer to all these questions was 'no'. No matter how bad the drivers/chipset how could any computer made in the last 5 years not be up to such undemanding tasks..?

Newer drivers and much faffing have largely cured the 'video issue' but frankly my P has been on borrowed time since I got it - the only reason why it hadn't ended up back on eBay was hope and it otherwise being exactly what I was after...
...well, your driver has saved it from that fate - me and my P want to thank you.

Apologies to all for a rambly first post - a little self-introduction along with my thanks.

I'm using a VGN-P788K. When I manually install these drivers, it seems to install fine, but youtube videos and games no longer work until I revert back. Anybody know a solution?

To my knowledge it's the combination of hardware acceleration under flash and Intel's dreadful drivers...
...they've added new 'issues' to this driver while improving / repairing others - I don't think it's AntonSK.

Workarounds:
-Revert to the old driver (not to be considered in my case)
-If your browser allows, search for an HTML5 plugin for things like Youtube to avoid Flash
-Turn off hardware acceleration for the movies that crash (can be a pain catching it in time)

I hope that helps a bit.

On my GMA500, with EMGD driver 2048 july 2011, I have Flash video acceleration using the specific version 10.1 of the flash player (as specified here, search for 'flash' on this page). You can download it on the flash archive page from Adobe, here. Take the '(Released 11/04/2010) Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and 9.0.289.0 (126 MB)' archive, and extract the file named 'Flash Player 10.1.102.64\10_1r102_64\flashplayer10_1r102_64_win .exe' and install it (it is indeed a 32 bits version, the 64 in the name is part of the flash version number).
If the installer tells you that it is not the latest version, you'll have to uninstall your installed version before, using the flash uninstall utility from Adobe, found here.
(for IE, the file to extract is 'Flash Player 10.1.102.64\10_1r102_64\flashplayer10_1r102_64_win ax.exe')

I hope this helps. Perhaps it also works with flash 10.3, I have not tested.

Anton, in case you do release a new version - you've got a typo error in the driver name when it's installed (which shows in the OpenGL ICD name and in the Windows Device Manager). It should be EMGD, not EMDG.

A good tip I found in the Vaio X owners thread at the notebookreview forums is to enable the Aero theme, but then just disable the transparency in the window colour section. This is the part that is really slow on the GMA500. The other useful stuff like Aero Peek is still nice and smooth.

True story. Disable transparent glass and all is fine with Aero -- in fact, some games work better with Aero on, contrary to the case on most other desktop graphics chips.

League of Legends, however, did NOT work on the Sony Vaio P under any configuration. Since it's been voted the best game of the year and everything, I was wondering if anyone else here ever managed to get it playing. I tried tweaking the config files, etc, even screwing around with 3DAnalyze to no avail.

Now I use p115 (it's korean model as like p90's last one)
and I set that(emgd 1.8 yours) up to my p'
buy I have a question for it.
you may wrote it will support OpenGL 2.0,
but it's not do anything, when I play NDS(it's nintendo emulater that emul-program support openGL.)

anyway I really satisfy about emgd 1.8 driver. it's more better than Suck-MS

I dismantled my P last night to fit a better wifi card and when I put it back together I played an HD H.264 movie file. The sound was full of popping and cracking and I thought I had physically broken something, and there was a lot of frame dropping. After a bit of thinking I wondered if it was a driver, and downloaded the DPC latency checker tool. It proved that a device driver was causing very bad latency problems while playing H.264. It wasn't the new Intel wifi driver so I realised that unfortunately it was this EMGD driver. Rebooting did not help. Removing EMGD and going back to the Intel GMA500 2030 driver fixed it. So it looks like there's still no ideal driver to use for all situations. We still need EMGD for games, the Intel one for HD playback.

I also noticed that even with transparency disabled in Aero, HD playback is poor (dropped frames). You really do need to disable Aero completely for decent HD playback.
