Anybody try to install OS X on this machine yet? Do you know if all the components are compatible? I haven't got mine yet. It won't ship until end of March so if anyone has a chance to try please let me know. Thanks!

i dunno if its possbible becase the processor and chipset is nothing like what Apple has to offer. The reason other netbooks can run hackintosh is because they all share the GMA950 chipset that the old macbooks used to have before the switched to invidia.

Apple did the 4500 chipset used in the P on a couple units as a stopgap before going nVidia.
Challenges for OS X on a P. Atheros WiFi (major pain on the Acer Aspire One as well) Mobi card driver GPS driver (part of Mobi?) Headphone jack turning speakers on/off. All the custom power management Sony did will make sleep a nightmare. Ditto the dock, plugging it in may or may not power the functions in hardware. Card reader looks very custom. Someone will whine about not having XMB support :-) Alps stick driver (some will say Apple has a stick up their... but they don't have one on their keyboards) 1600x768 (very non-Apple aspect ratio/rez) How will the z5xx Atom and it's support for VT affect porting? |

Although it would be cool on P, I already got my Hackintosh fix on my MSI Wind. It works great on that little machine.

There is also another thread about installing OS X on the Vaio P here: http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=1954
It does not have instructions on how to do it or proof that it even works but it's better if there aren't oo many threads about the same topic. Hopefully, DaHarder will let us know how he did it. @ coldmack: Where did you find the picture? Can you post the link? |

Here you go:
OSX (sic) on Vaio P http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2009/0...on-vaio-p.html Note: it is NOT OSX. It is Mac OS X. On the other hand, the iPhone and iPod touch use OS X. They are different beasts! |

Just for kicks, I tried the boot 132 iso (for the Dell Mini) along w/an original Leopard DVD (as the Mini has the same Intel GMA500 / PowerVR graphics chipset as the Vaio-P). Got as far as the Apple logo and then it hung. -v shows it failed to start CPU0. |

Thanks for finding that picture, coldmack.
BTW, I uploaded it to my personal Photobucket account because I just saw that you were hotlinking it from my friends at DAPreview. In the future, please refrain from hotlinking images from any site that isn't your own or that doesn't grant permission to do so. |

I didn't know they didn't grant permission my mistake.

The GMA500 is *not* supported by Mac OSX (Leopard) so even if there is a way to install and actually run a so called OSX86 distribution you will stuck on 1024x768 on the Vaio P without any acceleration (quartz extreme and core image) and many applications will simply not run without this (the screenshot in this thread is a fake). I doubt that there will be ever support for the GMA500 in the future because Apple has already switched to NVidia with their new Macbooks.

No problem. Except for image hosting sites (e.g., Photobucket, Flickr, etc.), there aren't really any websites that allow/approve of hotlinking, which is basically bandwidth theft.
Now back to the topic. ![]() Where did you read DaHarder say that some of the drivers weren't working? |
