Default New 318 Update ROM install log

I started with a clean 305 2.2 factory install (AT&T US)

I copied the 318 update.pkg to SDcard http://mobileupdate.dell.com/Package...8_12821_00.pkg
I flashed the 3.09 recovery.img via fastboot http://android.modaco.com/content/de...ecovery-image/
Code:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
Booted into recovery mode (power + vol up+dn)
selected update option 2
It verified and installed
it factory reset automatically
took about 5 min to boot into desktop (Dell Stage)

I did the initial setup of the google acct
I started market, went to downloads and it automatically started downloading and installing the apps I had previously installed via market (free and purchased)

I started Quadrant to test performance: 809, 821, 865

********************* Stock 2.2 318 is complete at this point ****************************

My prefered desktop is ADW.launcer which was just installed via market. I pressed the Home key and selected ADW as default

I copied the Stock Froyo preformance fix for 318 to sdcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848487
I needed to setup the PC bootmode driver again to get into fastboot for some reason...
I rebooted into fastboot to install StreakMod Recovery image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326
Code:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery StreakModRecovery.img
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
went into recovery mode (option 2)
browsed to the perf-update-3.18.1.zip and installed it
rebooted

ran Quadrant to test performance mod: 1352, 1475, 1688

************** Performance update is complete at this point ************************

****************** Rooting and my preferences are below ************************

Now to root it using "Super One Click" v 1.5.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

Install new battery meter from : http://android.modaco.com/content/de...ith-project-4/

Install SetCPU efault (1190/245) and use profiles, ScreenOff (460/245), Battery < 66% (768/245), Battery < 33% (460/245)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419

Install JuiceDefender
http://latedroid.com/juicedefender

Set Default Screen brightness to 12% (ymmv)

If Juice and/or SetCPU did anything to Quadrant performance: 1631, 1718, 1683, 1748

interesting... quadrant scores are higher than my 1.5.0... any bugs that you've noticed?
-Wifi thethering work?
-GPS working?
- can you open the YouTube client, and then not have the orientation locked once you exit?
- Geolocation working (location via cell towers)?

Was there a specific reason you installed 309 prior to 318? I went straight from 305 to 318 by just downloading the file and running it directly from my sd card (no recovery mode/factory reset).

Right now I love 318. I haven't found any bugs. My GPS works great (to include cell tower location data) and battery life seems better. Was going to upgrade to Steve's build when I was on 305, but right now I am happy with what I have.

Wifi Tethering works (configured wpa2-psk)

I needed the 309 recovery image as I had Clockwork installed (I only installed the 309 recovery image)

hmm.. think i'll take the jump from 1.5.0 to this. From what I've read seems you can just flash the 309 img then update via pkg from steves builds. This point - seems the performance fixes paired with the stock roms may be the most stable option atm.

edit - n/m, reading your other post radimus http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=8221
more too it than just flashin 309 and applying update.pkg

As long as you are on any 2.2 (doesn't matter if it is Steve's or factory), you only need the 309 recovery.img fastbooted on and then use the 309 recovery mode to install the 318.pkg from sdcard.

You do not have to jump thought a bunch of other hoops

You might even be able to go straight from 1.6, but I haven't tested that myself

may be too early... but any first impressions on battery life? Seems to be the only complaint (though few)

Battery life is a moving target as my use may be different than others. However, it seems to be better than 305, and much better than Steve's 1.4.5

Of course I also have SetCPU and JuiceDefender running a very conservative profile.

I had music playing through BT connection for about an hour with the screen off, as well as 2 exchange accts running in the background and it only used 4%...

damn phone is up to its old tricks again... says it flashed the recovery image ok. Goes into recovery just fine, select update via pkg. Brings up next screen warning all data erased yada yada - at at the bottom i KNOW its supposed to show the install progress. Damn bottom half is just blank. Sits a few min and restarts like nothin happened. May save this little project for the weekend. Don't understand why this phone hates .pkg so much. This is exactly what drove me to use the QDL tool...

Does the performance tweaks make a significant difference? I am running stock 318 and it seems quick enough. Of course, my only comparison is my wife's Captivate, and that thing is laggy as heck. So glad I choose the Streak over that thing...

Review the 3 sets of quadrant results on the first post
It does make a difference in performance... assuming that you need that level of performance.

basically email and internet doesn't require a great deal of performance as the laggy parts will be mobile data, not the CPU. However video, gaming and photo editing will utilize the increased performance, as well as lots of multitasking...

I installed the performance fix tonight. Went off without a hitch. My Quadrant scores went from the 840-850 range up to 1457. Thanks for the guide.

Posted this using WiFi tethering, so that works fine.
