Sprint cuts iPhone 4S on-contract prices to $50 off

sprintdeal - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

If the rumor mill is to be believed, Apple will be releasing its next iPhone at a special event next month. There hasn’t been any reason to doubt that a fall release date is true, and now, Sprint has seemingly given us yet another clue as to when Apple’s next handset will be revealed.

While the carrier obviously didn’t provide any specific release dates, it did drop the price on each of model Apple’s current iPhone – the iPhone 4S – by $50. That means you can get a 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB model for $149.99, $249.99, or $349.99, respectively – but all on contract. Fortunately, the deal comes with another perk: the absence of an activation fee, good for another $36 off.

Rumors have pegged the Apple’s “iPhone 5” announcement to be made on September 12. This sale in and of itself makes that date seem all the more likely, but the sale lasts through September 14 – two days after the alleged announcement will be made by Apple.

Considering that Sprint bought a large quantity (read: $15 billion worth) of iPhones, it’s not a big surprise that the carrier wants to rid its current stock before the new model launches. It’s a good deal to take advantage of, regardless of the forthcoming iPhone: the 4S is a great phone, now at a better price thanks to Sprint.
