Sling TV makes its public launch today
Sling TV, announced by Dish Network at CES last month, is a new streaming TV service, and perhaps one of the most exciting developments for cord-cutters in a long time. While Netflix, Hulu, and others focuses on on-demand content, Sling TV seeks to fill in the gap in live television. At only $20/month, it seeks to offer fewer compromises than other streaming services, while still keeping costs down for cost-conscious younger consumers. Perhaps even better, it seeks to be as universally-accessible as possible, with Android and iOS apps, and access on Windows, Mac, and Roku.
The $20 package includes:
- ESPN
- ESPN2
- TNT
- TBS
- Food Network
- HGTV
- Travel Channel
- Cartoon Network/Adult Swim
- The Disney Channel
- ABC Family
- CNN
- El Rey
- Galavision1
Kids Extra is an optional $5/month package that includes:
- Disney Junior
- Disney XD
- Boomerang
- Baby TV
- Duck TV
News junkies can also be $/month for:
- HLN
- Cooking Channel
- DIY
- Bloomberg TV
Sports Extra is also $5 a month:
- SEC Network
- ESPNU
- ESPNEWS
- ESPN Buzzer Beater
- ESPN Goal Line
- ESPN Bases Loaded
- Univision Deportes
- Universal Sports
- beIN Sports
Unfortunately, Chromecast and Apple TV are not supported yet. And AMC is nowhere to be found, which makes it a no-go for me. But Dish and Sling are working on correcting these oversights, so it will be very interesting to see how this service evolves in the coming months.
