The Presidential alert system was tested today

The Presidential Alert system was evidently successfully tested a few minutes ago. Plenty of people managed to not hear about the thing. My office rings with a cacophony of phones blasting out the emergency tones usually reserved for vague Amber Alerts at 2am.

I was immediately text bombed by several people who had managed to miss news that this test would be taking place. So to everyone, no, you don’t have a virus, it’s just a US-based emergency system called the Presidential Alert System as opposed to something less specific but more covering like “nationwide alert” or such.

Nothing to see here, just a new system that hopefully will be better managed than Hawaii’s Missile Alert system was.
